The 2008 Porsche Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 is one of the rarest and most desirable versions of the first-generation Cayman, with just 777 examples produced worldwide. Created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Porsche Design, it took an already fantastic driver's car and gave it a level of exclusivity and detail that makes it particularly special today.Finished exclusively in Black, the Design Edition 1 received its signature matte-black exterior graphics, 19-inch 911 Turbo wheels with 5mm spacers, and standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which lowers the car by 10mm compared with a standard Cayman S. Inside, Porsche continued the monochromatic theme with black leather and Alcantara throughout, including the sport steering wheel, shifter, handbrake and headliner. Special instrument dials were inspired by Porsche Design chronographs, Porsche crests are embossed into the headrests, and each of the 777 cars carries its own numbered plaque on the glovebox.At its heart is Porsche's naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six producing 295 horsepower. This is from an era before turbocharging took over much of the Porsche lineup, and the combination of a naturally aspirated flat-six, compact dimensions, rear-wheel drive and a mid-engine chassis is exactly what makes the 987 Cayman so good to drive. The steering is wonderfully communicative, the chassis feels incredibly balanced, and the engine only gets better as you work your way through the rev range. It's a sports car that rewards the driver without needing outrageous speeds to be entertaining.This particular example is in near-new condition throughout and is about as impressive as they come.
