Racing red under a black roof, opening onto beige. Three decisions, none of them the obvious one.
Why We Acquired This Vehicle
The berlinetta is the 488 in its original form - the fixed-roof coupe the whole car was engineered around before the Spider was drawn. It is the lighter, stiffer, more single-minded of the two, and it is the one that made the case for turbocharging when Ferrari still had a case to make.
This example was ordered by somebody with clear ideas. Rosso Speciis the racing red, but the roof was specified in black rather than body color, and the cabin was finished in Beige Tradizione rather than the black most buyers default to. Carbon fiber runs through the interior and across the body, and two separate elements were ordered outside Ferrari's standard catalog entirely. The verified appointments are detailed in full below.
The combination is what held our attention. A red car with a dark roof reads lower and more purposeful from outside, and then the door opens onto a light interior that makes the cabin feel considerably larger than a mid-engine coupe has any right to. At 12,324 miles it has been used as intended and looked after while being used.
