Why We Acquired This Vehicle
The DBX is the most consequential car Aston Martin has built in decades. It is the company's first SUV, produced at a factory in St Athan, Wales, built specifically for it, and it was designed to broaden a business that had spent a century making two-door sports cars for a narrow audience. Underneath, it is a bespoke bonded aluminum structure rather than a platform borrowed from anyone.
The engine is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 542 horsepower and 516 lb-ft, driving all four wheels through an active transfer case and an electronically controlled rear differential. Triple-chamber air suspension and a 48-volt active anti-roll system handle a vehicle that reaches 60 mph in the low four-second range and runs to 181 mph.
This example arrived with its original Monroney label, and that document is the reason we bought the car. Against a $176,900 port-of-entry price it totals $265,386 - roughly eighty-eight thousand dollars of optional equipment, including three separate commissions through Q by Aston Martin, the company's bespoke division.
