Why We Acquired This Vehicle
There is a version of the Flying Spur that arrives as chrome and ceremony, and a version that arrives as a shadow. This is the second one. The hardware underneath is unchanged - a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 producing 626 horsepower, all-wheel drive, an eight-speed dual-clutch - but the presentation is contemporary rather than traditional, and Bentley only builds a car this way when it is asked to.
This example arrived with its original Monroney label, which is how we know exactly how it was ordered rather than having to guess. It left Crewe at a delivered price of $317,220 against a $221,000 base, with the exterior finish, the veneer, the audio, and the smallest cabin details all specified rather than left standard. It is finished in Onyx over Magnolia, which is the whole tension of the car: one of the darkest exteriors Bentley offers opening onto one of its lightest interiors. At 40,284 miles it has been driven the way a grand tourer is supposed to be driven, and looked after while it was.
