"Price gouged during pandemic"

april8814

During the pandemic I had gotten sick and was in the hospital hooked up to a ventilator receiving medical treatment for a month due to asthmatic complications from Covid19. I recieved a text from them on March 18th stating that my account was past due $264. I did not receive this text until Monday April 13th after my vehicle had been repossessed due to non-payment. I was unable to contact MCMC because of being intubated due to asthmatic complications from the Corona Virus. I was released from the hospital on Sunday April 12th at 6:37pm. Checking my cell phone or email was not important to me considering I had just beaten the odds of surviving something that hundreds of thousands of people had not survived. I had gotten an email from them on March 24th while I was in the hospital that if we made a payment towards the balance that they would defer a payment. I had asked a family member to pay my bills for me since I was in the hospital and they had used the wrong account to pay my car note and the payment, unbeknownst to me, was returned by my bank. I later received a text message stating that on March 25th i was $264 behind on my car payments. Note I read this after my car was towed on Sunday, I was still in the hospital when this text came through. I attempted to email Ray Lloyd at MCMC and after 4 or 5 emails stating that I was sick and that the tow company had towed the vehicle illegal (breaking into a locked and secured gate on public property without a court order or my permission) that I was going to go ahead and pay the balance by borrowing money from family in order to do so. Well, after stating I was going to pay the balance I finally recieved a reply from Ray Lloyd stating that the balance was now $1124.86. First I've heard of a debt going from $264 to $1124.86 in 48 hours. I had not realized that I had a returned payment bc I was in the hospital. I wish that MCMC had waited until they spoke with someone about my account and maybe think about the fact that the reason I wasn't answering the phone might be due to something beyond my control. Especially with everything going on now. I've always been in communication with them if I was going to be late on a payment, and I've always been available to them when they called. I know MCMC knew I was in the hospital bc I had spoken with one of their collection agents while i was sick and told her I was out of work and sick and that I did not know when I was going to be able to make the payment. I wish MCMC would have considered that maybe I was apart of this global tragedy, and fighting for my life. According to their new policy in place that since they were deferring one payment if one payment is made that the balance reported on my account would automatically would be cut in half. I pray that MCMC can find it in their heart in the future to be more empathetic towards their customers and more conscious of global tragedies and how they effect people. I also hope in the future that MCMC will honor their new policies they put in place in order to assist their customers. In this instance their "make a payment and get one deferred" was not upheld by them. I will hopefully speak with someone in charge in the morning to further rectify this issue.
