Spent some time with Joe Bates on a Saturday looking at a Toyota Tacoma. Went home to do some research. Called Joe Weds to say we'd be there Thursday around 6 to buy a truck. He asked for stock #s for the 2 Toyota Tacoma. Went home to do some research. Called Joe Weds to say we'd be there Thursday around 6 to buy a truck. He asked for stock #s for the 2 we wanted to compare to make sure the trucks were there and ready. Sent. Thursday, I told him our budget and he said we can make it work and tells me what I need to bring for my trade including that "both of the trucks are front line ready" and he'd be there to help us. I again said I'd be there AROUND 6, but was reliant on 2 jobs letting us go on time. We get there about 6:20, didn't even stop to eat. We get there and go out to look for the trucks, find 1 and take it for a test drive. The other is nowhere to be found. After driving around the lot for some time, we find it not ready, no stickers, not clean and the remote isn't working. Interesting. So, we start the paper work for the one we drove. He takes the credit app to the office. He's promised we'd get offers for our "AA level credit, but comes back after getting into a loud argument with another employee over issues with a printer and hands us a 10.99% interest rate and a $1,000 a month payment which was double what we expected. My wife left after a couple terrible offers since this was clearly nowhere near what we had discussed previously. He brought numbers for the 3rd time, so I took those and went to talk to my wife in the car. Told him I'd be back in 10 mins or less. When I came back in, Joe was nowhere to be found, the table was cleared off and the computer was off so I went back outside, confused. As soon as I walked out, a guy locked the doors. It was 30 mins before closing. We waited outside for about 30 mins. No text. No call. Nothing from Joe. As we were preparing to leave, a guy came out asking if we were customers of Joe and if we were planning on finishing the deal. Not anymore. To both. The next day Joe texted in the am asking "what did we decide from last night?" then called 3x. I was working and couldn't talk, so I texted. These are copied and pasted - Me: "We had talked yesterday afternoon on the phone about what it was going to take to get the truck purchased. I said I need to keep my payments as close to $xxx as possible. You said with 8 to $10,000 down we will be able to make that happen. Then you came to the table with a 10.99% interest rate and payments around $x,xxx. We have worked too hard for too long to get to where we are to be insulted that way. When I went back in you were gone and the table was clear, computer shut down. As soon as I walked back out the door they locked it behind me. We really don't have time for a lot of back and forth and thought by disclosing where we're at we could avoid that, so if you want to let us know your best offer, we'll consider it. Otherwise we'll thank you for your time and keep looking." Joe's reply: "Bill even when we showed you the 6.19. The payment was higher with nine grand down then xxx and it's all about the mass. I can't do anything about the price but I will say we spent three hours together on a Saturday and I came in at 6 PM on my day off and you didn't show until 630 then you leave and I don't see you for 30 minutes you're out in the truck had 10 minutes to close. I walked out and leave thinking you've left I'm not doing business this way feel free to keep looking." Our time was wasted and then we were blamed for it and told our business was unwelcome. I did not ask for him to come in on his day off or to hear stories about his life on Saturday causing the visit to take 3 hours. It was not our fault we had to spend so much time looking for a vehicle that turned out not to be ready when we hadn't even taken the time yet to have dinner after working all day. Joe was hostile and made promises he made no effort to keep once at the finish line. In the end, I missed out on a truck I would have liked to purchase. Very disappointing. More

I recently brought my RAV4 hybrid in to have my battery checked. Bill Grubb my service agent who I have been dealing with for years diagnosed the problem made sure it was fixed correctly and had the firmw checked. Bill is gifted and talented and passionate about the work he does. He personifies outstanding customer service. Bill is the dean of the service team and a wonderful role model for the younger men and women that are part of the team. He helps make the service department the very best and is a wonderful representative of AutoNation Toyota Arapahoe and Toyota Corp. This is a well run service department. It is service done right.
