The finance employee changed my elected financing terms from 48 to 60 months, which increased the interest rate, without pointing to me at all such important changes, so he could push about $8500 -again wi from 48 to 60 months, which increased the interest rate, without pointing to me at all such important changes, so he could push about $8500 -again without mention of this cost- of extended maintenance/warranty/insurance plans, all concealed under “it is the same monthly payment”. I purchased a 2023 Highlander and I had explicitly chosen 48 months financing to take advantage of a 2.49% promotional rate. After down payment and trade in of my older vehicle, monthly payment came to about $836. The finance employee insisted on selling me extended maintenance/warranty plans and after many ‘no’ from me he finally asked if I’d buy one plan that increased my payment by only $10, to which I agreed, naturally assuming a plan cost of around $480 under same terms on everything else. Without telling me about it, he added $7000 and changed financing from 48 to 60 months to get the same monthly payment, which also moved up the promotional rate to 3.49%, so he basically added 12 months x $836 = $10,032 without mention and concealing it during the signing process. It wasn’t until I was filing my copies the next day that I was appalled to see the new costs and terms he had entered. I reached out to his boss and the store manager but got no response. I’ve cancelled $7000 of extras he included but I’m still left with 'appearance protection', additional windshield protection cost and additional cost of $1600 from the higher interest rate that wasn’t my choice and I will have to refinance somewhere else. More
