I recently took my car in for service and a software update (safety recall remedy). When I scheduled the appointment, I specified that the vehicle needs a 5 tire rotation - this is reflected in all pre update (safety recall remedy). When I scheduled the appointment, I specified that the vehicle needs a 5 tire rotation - this is reflected in all previous service notes since I was pretty quick to have it outfitted with a full sized spare on a matching wheel. The service advisor questioned my request and went so far as to actually look at the spare before checking the car in. Once the car was done, they tried to recommend additional services with high priority to the tune of approximately $440. These services included the following: 1) Wheel Balance ($89.95), 2) Four-Wheel Alignment ($129.99), and 3) SDC Climate Control Service (Evap service - $220.99) When asked for clarification on the recommendations, they could not provide any supporting data as to why they were recommended (car handles fine, no uneven wear on the tires), likewise, they could not explain why they were recommending service to the A/C system. On my way home, I noticed the car was not cooling…which seemed rather odd. I got home, grabbed a bite to eat and got ready to head back, but the car seemed to be fine again. Then today, I noticed when sitting idled, the car was blowing warm air…the AC worked okay while moving, but definitely could not keep up when the car was stopped - not ideal with local temps exceeding 110 degrees. When I got home, I popped open the hood and found my cooling fan relay UNPLUGGED, rendering the cooling fan incapacitated. Could they have disconnected it while running the software update and forgot to plug it back in? Possibly….but with them trying to sell me a $220 AC service? Seems sus. More
