I have been a loyal BMW customer since 2018 and have serviced my vehicle only at authorized BMW dealerships and have never encountered such unscrupulous business practice at any BMW dealership before. serviced my vehicle only at authorized BMW dealerships and have never encountered such unscrupulous business practice at any BMW dealership before. My BMW 540i PCV malfunctioned over the weekend (specifically the rubber diaphragm had a tear w/ consequent whistling sound and gray-white smoke from exhaust). I looked up this issue online and found that BMW has issued a very specific service bulletin for this exact problem in 2023 w/ warranty extension. I relayed the above information to the service advisor – Joel Gonclaves on 5/21/2025 at BMW Rockland and he instead argued w/ me that the rubber diaphragm is NOT a part of the PCV system and will NOT be covered by the warranty. His estimate for the repair was over $ 4500. This is beyond ridiculous, unethical – and this despite me showing him the actual service bulletin which outlines my exact problem. After arguing back and forth I was then told by him that “they were able to make a case” for me and the repair would be covered at no cost under the warranty. He also stated that I “would be surprised by the number of things that get rejected by BMW for specific nomenclature” – and if the latter statement is indeed true then I question the ethical standards of BMW as whole itself.
