While we take checks from customers on a regular basis, we do have a company policy of not accepting checks on special finance deals. Our policy is designed to protect the company in cases where customers have not have always honored their past commitments. In such transactions we will only accept cash or other cash intsruments such as a cashier's check for deposits/down payments. We are in the business of selling cars and our intent has been and remains to sell you a car and to use your phrase, not let you "off the hook".
