The combination of a quality product and a reputation for excellent customer service assured continued growth, including the addition of a Mazda franchise, in October 1972, at the Pikes Peak Avenue location. In 1975, Mazda joined Volvo in Motor City to increase productivity and to better serve our customers.
Mr. Penkhus' son, Robert A. Penkhus ("Bob"), was a "permanent fixture" around the dealership from an early age, so it was natural that he would join his father in the business upon his graduation from the University of Denver. Bob Penkhus gradually assumed responsibility for all aspects of dealership operations and in 1977, became President of Penkhus Motor Company. Mr. Penkhus' concerns for his customers and employees, coupled with his enthusiasm for our products, have resulted in continued success and growth. Development of a new car display area along Interstate 25 in 1987 was followed one year later by a major service and parts expansion project in which we added fourteen mechanical and detail service stalls, doubled the parts area, and built an enclosed customer service area. In the spring of 1999 our growth continued with the opening of our second Select Certified location and a Domestic and Import Service Center on Austin Bluffs Parkway.
With the growth of Colorado Springs, Penkhus Motor Company wanted to ensure that it was meeting customer needs. In 2004 Penkhus Motor Company remodeled its Motor City location including constructing a new showroom and making other improvements at the Motor City location. In 2006 Penkhus Motor Company constructed a new facility at Woodman and Powers, which is the Bob Penkhus Mazda at Powers store.
In 2009 Penkhus Motor Company acquired a Volkswagen franchise and opened the Volkswagen franchise at the Motor City Drive location. In 2012 Penkhus Motor Company acquired a Mitsubishi franchise which is located at the Austin Bluffs Parkway Select Certified location. That facility is now known as Bob Penkhus Mitsubishi.

New Mazda I didn't know anything about Mazda, VW or Mitsubishi. My salesperson, Fabian, was very knowledgeable and informative. Great experience except for the tires. We had a great overall experience, Corrina was our salesperson and was great. We purchased a car for our son to go to college in. We are very happy with the car overall but we had major problems with the tires...before we could get home we had to have the tires checked in Pueblo because they didn't feel right. The tire specialist showed us the wires showing through on the front two tires, and the back two tires had been recently replaced by the dealer but were the wrong tire size. Long story short we had to purchase 4 new tires right then just to get back to our home in Trinidad. It is a 2008 model car and we expected things of this nature, but we should not have been put on the road with unsafe tires. This is in no way Corrina, our salespersons fault...she was AWESOME and we plan to come back and use her again soon for another family car. More

Disappointed I recently contacted Bob Penkhus dealership to request pricing on a Volvo XC90 T8. I explained I am scheduled to take delivery on a T6 on Thursday fro I recently contacted Bob Penkhus dealership to request pricing on a Volvo XC90 T8. I explained I am scheduled to take delivery on a T6 on Thursday from another Colorado Dealership but found out the hybrids have a good tax advantage and theirs was the only T8 locally. I spoke with Madisen who assured me Bruce her Volvo expert would get back with me on a price ASAP. I did not want to hold up the other vehicle if indeed this was a better tax deduction option. I asked if I could get a photo of the sticker in the meantime so I could compare options and be ready to make a decision as I need to purchase before year end. No photo! At 5:15 I told Madisen my company's finance team had left for the day and was hoping to have a price by that time. She once again said Bruce would have this before closing at 8:00 PM. It is 10:06 and nothing. I would be hesitant to purchase from this dealership if they are not even interested in selling a car. Heaven knows what the service would look like after a purchase! More

I have a free oil change for as long as I own my car: 7hours for an oil change and then returned to me with crack from top to bottom of my windshield, they claimed was already there. Their supporting document proved me correct. I take my car to reputable oil change garages. Took same car in for tune up, after $2,100 all the made up issues were the only thing done. No tune up. Sales man lied about the condition of this used car, stated no one had ever smoked in it when asked. After ppurcased found many cigarette burns and holes. Sadly, like all dealerships this one is corrupt and greedy. Buyer Beware. Bad bad people and treatment. YOU WILL PAY TOO MUCH. More
