I hoped that dealing with a national brand used car dealer would be different than dealing with the skeezy small used car lots. Alas, it is not so. Carmax is just another skeezy dealer. They sold me a truck with a generic key that will not operate some features. I called and asked them if they could remedy the situation and they said no. Then my mechanic found a sheared off front axle bolt that was obviously not repaired. All in all not really better than any cut rate used car lot. Disappointed! More

Overall good experience. I liked the ability to search on the exact car I wanted with alerts and no haggling. I ordered my car from another state, and it came in about 10 day I liked the ability to search on the exact car I wanted with alerts and no haggling. I ordered my car from another state, and it came in about 10 days. The one frustrating part of the experience was that every time I visited my local CarMax which was about four times (and a couple of phone calls), I had to deal with a new person who was not up to speed on what happened the last time I was in, so one step forward and two steps back to get back to where I left off. I understand that this is part of the way CarMax works, so just be prepared you won't always have the same person or even be able to get them on the phone. However, everyone was professional, nice and eager to help. One other slightly frustrating part was that financing outside of CarMax was a little bumpy in the paperwork. Don't let that deter you, it was definitely worth the research and a little extra time. I am thrilled with my purchase and after considering and dealing with a different auto dealer in the same search, CarMax won out. More
