It helps to have as much up-front paperwork done if possible. I cannot rate their service department as I have never utilized it...I'm sure it is great too. I bought a car that had a problem with the alignment & a tire worn unevenly. I Had to spend $800 to fix the problem. I could not call carmax locally. Communication was very poor. I had four errors by the staff without accountability. Costing me both hours and money. First I had an error in you contact. My salesperson did not complete the paperwork. I had already insured the vehicle meaning I was paying for it to sit on your lot. When I reached out I was told I was wrong by Carnac and had to escalate and work with a manager. I was also told you would replace the windshield and detail the car before I picked it up. Neither was completed. Lastly a month after purchase I have been told that I now need to go get the emissions done because it was not done before registration. I am now driving on an expired tag and will have to take time off work and drive across town to fix carmax’s error. More
My engine light went on today so I’m not happy at all. I have a call into the service department. Hopefully they will call back. I was overall VERY pleased with CarMax. Car I wanted was priced right, even though there is a no-haggling policy. EVAN was the salesman I worked with and he was VERY thorough, though I did feel pressure from him on getting an extended warranty which I was hesitating to do and I had to make a quick decision at the time I was buying the car. I did not like that and I wish I had time to think it over more. (I later cancelled the warranty and got my money back since it was within the 30 days of buying the car.) I just wish CarMax would let a potential buyer have a mechanic look at a car BEFORE any purchase is made. Thank God my car had no major problems when my mechanic looked at the car after I bought it. (CarMax DOES have a 10-day warranty on getting your money back if a buyer does not want to buy the car if problems are found or for other reasons.) CarMax did reimburse me on what I paid to get a car manual since the car had none and I really appreciated that. However, the car came with only ONE key fob and I have to pay for that. Wish CarMax would also reimburse me on that. Anyhow, CarMax reconditioned the car well before selling it to me and I also appreciated that, although I had to go back and get the tires re-aligned since they had not done that. But since it was within the 30-day warranty, there was no charge. Overall, GREAT customer service and they even give you FREE Lyft and Uber rides so you do not have to wait while your car is getting serviced and I really liked that. In summary, would I buy from a CarMax again, even with some negatives? I think I would! More
The finance process was longer than it needed to be. Both my wife and I had to do another Credit Pull to finance the vehicle. The manger that runs the credit did not take what we reported the first time and submit it to the lender correctly, resulting in having to run our credit a second time. The vehicle selection is not bad; however, the representatives and managers need to report the correct information during the finance process. Would have been about 1 hour total if the correct information had been reported the first time. Total time ended up being almost 2.5 hours because of this. Almost walked out to another dealership, but let them pull the credit a second time to see how much the payment would be. Would have been a better experience if the manager had come over to speak with us about their mistake. More
Luke, the salesperson was friendly and very cordial. I ordered and paid for a vehicle to be shipped to Albuquerque. I called Nevada and ask if the vehicle was in good shape. He said it did. I specifically ask about the trunk cover because I play golf and wanted to make sure it was with the car. He said most likely it is because it is a return lease vehicle. Sure enough, it was not in the vehicle. I called the salesman, informed him, but no one from Carmax responded. More
