I chose CarMax expecting a straightforward, transparent buying experience, but unfortunately that was not my experience. There was no clear backup plan when my assigned representative was unavailable, which meant I had to proactively request assistance from another staff member just to keep the process moving. The most concerning part of my experience was during the financing discussion. The associate confidently told me my payment calculations were incorrect and stated he had just worked a similar deal with my bank, implying I didn’t understand the process. The tone came across as dismissive and condescending. A supervisor was brought in, and while I appreciated her involvement, I made it clear the issue wasn’t escalation—it was that the associate needed better understanding and communication. After contacting the bank directly, it was confirmed that my understanding was correct, and the information I had been given by the associate was inaccurate. Unfortunately, there was no acknowledgment or accountability for that mistake. I’ve purchased vehicles from other dealerships and, despite the typical challenges, have had more respectful and efficient experiences than this. I expected CarMax’s “no-hassle” approach to be smoother and more customer-focused, but the lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism made this process frustrating. More
