I was thrilled to be able to once again purchase a vehicle from Carmax after having such a wonderful first-time experience several years ago. This specific location ensured that I will likely never go through Carmax ever again. The hits seemed to keep coming. First, they canceled my car reservation without telling me after I paid and was waiting for it to be shipped from out of state. That car somehow became a loner car at the other location. Next, the trade-in value I was quoted ended up being far less after their team's thorough inspection. I know there can be limitations with inspections, but at no point were they up front until toward the end, and my entire out-of-pocket and finance plan had to be adjusted. Their thoughts about the trade-in value of my car stung that much more when the car I ended up purchasing had a few, albeit relevant, issues that I needed to return for their team to fix. The final transaction process also took forever. I had an early Saturday appointment and thought I'd be out of there within a few hours. It took almost six. Maybe it was just that day, but I honestly never felt like a priority as a customer. The staff was mostly friendly, but the overall car-buying experience from this location left much to be desired. I researched across the country for months, and the car I ended up purchasing at this location was literally the EXACT model I wanted. However, if I could have found a match anywhere else, there is no way I would've put myself through this experience — especially after the original shipping fiasco. It only got worse as things went on. My only positive takeaway from all of this was Jim from the service team. He's a stand-up guy and genuinely made me feel like an appreciated customer. More
