She went above and beyond to make sure my experience was a great one. When I came to pick my car up, she had even put a giant bow on it! I’ve never been delivered a car with a bow on it before. I thought that was super cool. Then, a few days later, I received a hand written thank you card in the mail from her. That’s what I call customer appreciation. Thank you Yasmin!! The sales manager and finance manager also Did an amazing job putting the deal together as well. The finance guy got me a coupon to include some extras that I really appreciate as well. Allow me to take you on a journey. Yesterday I time-traveled back 2 decades ago when I entered Don Davis. I must have at least, because that was the last time these manipulative sales tactics were time-traveled back 2 decades ago when I entered Don Davis. I must have at least, because that was the last time these manipulative sales tactics were acceptable at dealerships. Let me explain. I was a walk-in yesterday afternoon around 4 pm at the dealership and connected with a sales rep, Cody. I was interested in trading in my Dodge Challenger to lease a new Dodge Charger, specifically Daytona Trim. Fast forward after the test drive and trade-in appraisal (and some common negotiating), Cody and I started talking about numbers for the lease. At this point, the dealership manager came into the office, sat down, and said he could offer me a lease range of $499-$599/mo. on the Daytona trim or $549-$699/mo. on the Scat Pack trim ($0 down after positive equity from the trade-in was applied, on a 36mo lease). I said those monthly numbers were too high for me. At this point, the Manager asked: "What do you need to see to buy today?" I said: $0 down, 36month lease, and under $400/mo. on a lease. To which, the Manager took the paper, wrote down "W.B.T. (will buy today) Dodge Charger Smokeshow Daytona $0 Down 3yr/36 mo lease, $399." I asked if there was any way he could make this offer with a Daytona series in Black, even if it meant waiting for him and his dealership to acquire the vehicle from another shop or auction? The Manager said, "Sure. I can get you any color and any trim. You want a black Daytona? done." I asked him to confirm: "at this price point?" Again, the Manager confidently said "yes." After a few minutes thinking it through and coming back with a "let's do it," I came back to Cody (sales rep), who explained that after looking, his Manager said they could not offer me another Daytona at this price. However, they can offer me a better deal on the Scat Pack, or an RT, or the Daytona they had on the lot at $399/mo. After looking at the Scat Pack, thinking, etc, I elected to move forward with the Daytona the dealership had on the lot at $0 down / $399/mo. Fast forward 45min-1hr later after signing the paperwork (including a sheet with an offer of $399/mo, removing all of my belongings from my trade-in vehicle, the whole 9 yards. Cody took me and the signed paperwork across to the separate building to meet with the finance team. This, to my understanding, was to finalize the agreed upon lease documents, agree upon additional things like Gap insurance, mileage limit, etc. As soon as I walked into the finance manager's office, he restated my intent to purchase the dodge charger Daytona today and then stated. "672" "what?" … "$672 a month" There had to be a mistake. So I confirmed the trade-in value, reviewed the paperwork I had just signed with the sales manager with the stated "$399/mo." on it. Finance's only answer was: "I'm sorry, I don't know why he would offer you this. It would be bad business if we sold you this car at this offer." (I HAD ALREADY SIGNED ALL OF THE PAPERWORK) I demanded the contract be voided and asked for an explanation from the sales manager and an apology for wasting, at this point, 4 hours of my afternoon/evening. Last fast forward. The sales rep took me back to the sales manager, who took the paperwork, then came back and said, "Ok, so the rebate of $3k doesn't apply to leases, so I had the finance manager apply a discount of the same amount to get us back to the total we were at. It's $599/mo. Sound good?" "no, absolutely not. How did we go from $399 to $599?" "Oh, well, we wrote the paperwork for Tier 1 program, and you qualify for Tier 2 program, so it will be more. We can get you into an RT Trim for less, or you can purchase the Daytona instead of leasing, and I can get you closer to $499/mo." At this point, I was over the bait and switch tactic. I demanded to void and shred the contract and wouldn't be doing business with this manager/dealership. TLDR: - Manager gave me his word he could get any color/any trim for a promised and agreed upon quote (He lied) - Manager gave me his word on a quoted price & had me sign paperwork for it (he lied), then retracted that quote and nearly DOUBLED the quoted price - Manager baited and switched me over and over again throughout the process - Manager took the classic ploy of putting me through the entire process, running my credit, singing paperwork, walking me through all the benefits, and having me take all of my belongings out of my existing car, just to double the price on me. AND THEN trying to come back down slightly as if to make it a "good deal," hoping I would be so exhausted from the experience that I would break and say yes. Moral of the story: YOUR DEALERSHIP MANAGER IS NOT A MAN OF INTEGRITY NOR A MAN OF HIS WORD. I've lost absolute respect for him, and Don Davis should reconsider the types of individuals they hire to represent their brand. More
