Scare tactics to try to get me to buy tires. Went for required service at 20,000 miles and was told I had two very worn tires. I was told their $40,000 machine was very accurate. Beware...service department is dishonest! We took our Toyota to our TRUSTED local mechanic to have a warning light issue checked. They did due diligence and discovered that it was a software p We took our Toyota to our TRUSTED local mechanic to have a warning light issue checked. They did due diligence and discovered that it was a software problem and under warranty (and even gave us printouts explaining exactly what was going on), so we took it to the Cox Toyota dealership in Burlington, NC that same day. Unfortunately, Cox was unable to fix the problem because the warning light code had been reset and the code wasn't showing. No biggie, it will come back on again soon, and they can fix it when it does. The PROBLEM is that, without our asking, they "checked" the car. According to them, "the water pump showed signs of leaking and needed to be replaced", along with the belt, which was "cracked", and the "intake manifold gasket was leaking, and needed to be replaced". All to the tune of $700+. We went back to our HONEST and HIGHLY-EXPERIENCED mechanic. He told us that while they were looking into the warning light, they checked the car over. (They take very good care of our vehicles). They ran a smoke test on the manifold (NO LEAKS), and our water pump certainly was not "leaking". Incidentally, we have never had to replace coolant. Cox may have friendly sales reps and associates, but from our experience (and what we have subsequently heard about the service department at this place), we suggest you either go elsewhere, or get a second opinion before you accept Cox's word on what may be unnecessary work.
