After years of dealing with a older blazer I finally decided to check into getting a different car because I was tired of nickel and diming all the "fix-its". I was referred to Toyota by a family frien decided to check into getting a different car because I was tired of nickel and diming all the "fix-its". I was referred to Toyota by a family friend and went in assuming I would barely qualify for a used car without a co-signer because I do not have the best of credit. To my surprise they worked with me beyond my expectations and I drove off the lot with a brand new car. From the minute I met my salesman, Waylon, I knew I was in good hands because I myself have a dog that I like taking for long walks and quiet nights by the fire. I figured with us having so much in common that he would definitely make sure I was taken care of and I was right! Thank you Waylon for your accomodating personality, genuine hospitality, and attention to detail in making my experience with Toyota of the Black Hills wonderful! More
This review is for Bobby Willert. We worked exclusively with him and his service after the sale is the main reason for the rating. We found a great car here,a used 2011 Ford Explorer Limited. I thoug with him and his service after the sale is the main reason for the rating. We found a great car here,a used 2011 Ford Explorer Limited. I thought they gave us a fair deal for the car and was quite pleased with there service before the sale, we weren't hounded on the lot like a lot of places. But that is were it ends. After writing the check and completing paper work they proceed to hand us one key. Bobby told us specifically that we would be receiving the second one in the mail shortly since we lived out of town. Also there was no wallet card in the glove box so we can not use the keyless entry feature of our car. He also told us he would get us that information for us. After 2 months without a key I called bobby directly and asked what the deal was. He said that the previous owners had not been back to the store to bring the spare key. What?!!!! Someone else has the key to MY car. Now he tells me it might be a year before they bring their car in for service. Or if their experience is like ours i would guess maybe never is more like it. This is total xx and I believe they should be responsible for getting me a spare key. Who sells a car with one key and doesn't disclose this fact till they have taken your money. It's been 6 months now without a word from Bobby and he will no longer return my calls. To ice the cake on this matter he said our purchase comes with lifetime of free car washes at their facility, which being from out of town isn't all that exciting, but still we have been there twice since we bought our vehicle and Bobby won't answer calls anymore to give us the code to the wash. If it wasn't for these 2 tiny details I would have said our experience was great, fives across the board, but the service after the sale has been pathetic at best. I would be thrilled if someone, preferable a manager would actually would take a call. More

My experience with Matt was the best I've ever had when purchasing a vehicle. He worked with my husband over the phone so I could just easily drive over to Rapid City & test drive my van. I was unable to locate a salesman for over 10 minutes on the inside of the building. I finally located Janusz Walczak who was constantly on the cell phone. He stopped long eough to stare at me in a fashion the inside of the building. I finally located Janusz Walczak who was constantly on the cell phone. He stopped long eough to stare at me in a fashion that invited me to ask a question. I asked to Prius V. He said to walk to the other side of the parking lot where there may be one of the vehicles. He also said that he could not promise that one would be there. I left the building to leave the business when he came outside and said that he would try to find someone to help me. I told him to forget it that I would go to a different dealer. His response was "ok have a good day". I buy a new car every two years and am going to buy a Prius V but I can promise that I will not buy from this dealer. This is without a doubt the worst dealer I have ever delt with. My word of mouth about this business is about all I can do. More
I am submitting this negative review based on my recent purchase experience. I have just purchased my fourth toyota 4runner. It is the first one that I have puchased in the state of South Dakota and at the purchase experience. I have just purchased my fourth toyota 4runner. It is the first one that I have puchased in the state of South Dakota and at the Black Hills Toyota Dealership. I was actually looking for a new vehicle but, ended up purchasing a slightly used vehicle in the make and model that I wanted. I am very disaapointed because even though I did my research, I still ended up paying more and receiving less, than if I would have worked with a dealership in Wyoming, Montana, or Colorado. After all was said and done, I would have been better off going somewhere else and buying a brand new vehicle. The Black Hills Toyota Dealership has a nice new facility and they have to pay for it in some way, which I guess is at the customers' expense. The salesmen are like vultures standing in the front of the building. The first salesman that I spoke to was Waylon and I told him exactly what I was looking for in a new purchase. He did some ground work and called me back with one that they could bring in at a price higher than any other dealer in three other states had quoted to me. After I declined I never did hear back from him - even when they brought in this used vehicle that had most everything that I wanted on it. When I came to the dealership on a later date and had work done to my vehicle, I observed the vehicle on the lot that was similar to my previous request. I called the dealership and asked about their hours, indicating that I wanted to drive the vehicle. I told them that I had been dealing with Waylon but, Joel said that didn't matter, he could take me in that vehicle(when it appears commission does matter). When I got to the dealership I went directly to the vehicle and Tim Coomes helped me. I drove the vehicle and indicated that I was very interested. We talked numbers and I should have stayed firm and waited. I worked with Tim as he went back and forth between the financial people. I had just paid for service and had been a good customer in their service department so they knew my vehicle history and they still began with a low-ball trade-in offer. I settled on a trade and wasn't too disappointed in the price but I should have researched it better because when all was said and done - I paid too much for a used vehicle - I would have been better off just buying brand new off the lot and probably should have gotten a bit more for my used one. It was the end of the day and there was a great deal of pressure and the finance person (Mark Kinnick) was not that nice and probably annoyed at the late time. He was a jerk regarding all the add-ons for insurance and services that they try to sell you. I asked specifically not to have the finish service in the financing and he didn't get that right. When I left and had time to reflect on my experience, I had a bad feeling for it. I feel that there was pressure to pay more and buy more - that I didn't really get the best deal for my money or the best customer service. Upon returning I expressed some concern to Tim. He was sympathetic and listened but obviously the salesmen have no pull and they can blame it on the pushy finance guys. I asked them if they would be able to work with me on a deal for an accessory that I originally wanted, but the dealership was unwilling. There is definitely not a team atmoshphere at this dealership. After being a service customer for the past eight years, I don't think that I will be doing any business with this dealership again. I would recommend that if you are looking for a Toyota, to do your research and look at the dealers on the other end of the state or in a different state. This place may look nice but, that is not really how they do business. As a professional, I expect that when I do business with a business like Black Hills Toyota there is more professionalism than what I observed. When I queried about the vehicle history on my purchase, another salesman or manager in the showroom shared a story that this vehicle was traded in at a subaru dealer in Sioux Falls and they contacted the Black Hills Toyota because the Subaru and Toyota dealerships in Sioux Falls don't get along. I understand competition but, there is a line between competiton and professionalism. When I read some of the other before reviews on this site they seemed familiar. I wish that I had read them before I did business at Black Hills Toyota because I may have asked more questions. I am currently removing anything on my vehicle that advertises for this business and I am taking my business elsewhere, where I can feel like I received a good deal and where I can expect better treatment after making a significant purchase. 10/22/12 I was just informed that the dealer posted. It makes it sound as though we resolved something and I don't believe that it was quite like that....we exchanged phone calls. I have removed everything on my vehicle that advertises for this business and I have taken my business elsewhere. I have a different view of this business after dealing with them. There was no solution reached that really changes anything and it is unsettling that this new post is attached. If there was some resolve - I would have updated my post or removed it. More
Toyota of the Black Hills provided us with a very positive experience during our trade and purchase of our new 2012 Toyota Camry. The staff were professional and friendly, the facility was attractiv positive experience during our trade and purchase of our new 2012 Toyota Camry. The staff were professional and friendly, the facility was attractive and clean, and the selection of vehicles was excellent. Nate Sneed, our sales person, was knowledgeable and personable. He helped us narrow down our choices by asking good questions without being too pushy. Nate was willing to negotiate on our behalf which resulted in a deal. We were pleased with our trade in value that we got for our 05 Toyota. We are sold on Toyota and on Toyota of the Black Hills. Thanks Nate and all of you for making our new car purchase pleasant. My wife and I purchased a 2007 Ford Escape in May 2012. Overall, we were pleased with the customer service until after our purchase. In addition to purchasing our vehicle, we also purchased the triple pro Overall, we were pleased with the customer service until after our purchase. In addition to purchasing our vehicle, we also purchased the triple protection plan. Our salesperson agreed to take care of the following issues before the protection plan was implemented: 1.) rear windshield fluid was leaking inside vehicle and to be fixed, 2.) cigarette/musty smell to be removed, 3.) gap in weather stripping in back hatch to be sealed, 4.) scratches in paint were to be buffed out. The first item was resolved. The second item was attempted, and hasn't been too much of an issue with the use of air freshener. The third item was not resolved and some leaking occurs when it rains. The fourth item was attempted a couple times, but was never resolved. We were hoping to have the scratches buffed, or at least attempted, before the clear protection coat was applied to the vehicle. However, my wife went to pick up the vehicle after the protection plan was completed, and noticed the scratches had not been buffed out. She mentioned this to our salesperson who said he would contact the person who does the buffing the following day. My wife was heading out of town that day for the weekend, so our salesperson asked her to call when she got back into town. She called him when she got back to town, but he was unavailable that day so he asked her to stop in the following day. When she stopped by, our salesperson made a phone call at that time to the person who does the buffing. However, this person was unavailable that day, so our salesperson told her he would call her the following week. He never called her back, and thus, the issue has never been resolved. My wife was tired of stopping in and calling our salesperson every couple of days to try to get these issues resolved and felt like she was being blown off. We would have contacted you about this earlier, but we have been very busy and time got away from us. More
