HI! I am sorry we haven't given you a good answer to a very simple and straightforward question: why do you have to get a synthetic oil change every year, even if you are not putting many miles on your car (currently less than 6,000)? Toyota's maintenance schedule requires a synthetic oil change every year or 10,000 miles - whichever occurs first. This means an annual synthetic oil change once per year, regardless of mileage. This maintenance schedule comes from Toyota, the manufacturer, not Earl Stewart Toyota, and is published in your scheduled maintenance guide you should have in your glove compartment or online here: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms-s/T-MMS-15PriusC/pdf/2015_Toyota_Prius%20c_WMG_lr.pdf Toyota recommends this schedule because their engineers have determined it's the best way to maintain optimal health of your vehicle. I would be happy to have one of factory certified technicians explain some of the particular risks that come with not changing oil frequently enough, even on low mileage cars. We based our Tires for Life program around the Toyota factory recommended maintenance schedule.
