Before I explain our position let me state two things, 1 we never want a customer to have a bad experience at Donaldsons, 2 we do not build Subaru’s here at Donaldsons. The customer unfortunately left out a few key details to the experience, they ordered the Subaru through the true-car buying program, and the agreed price was $200 over manufacturer invoice, a great price considering the demand for the car. The customer traveled quite a distance and past 4 other Subaru dealers to get to donaldsons because of the price. The car was indeed late for two reasons, 1st Subaru has been having a tough time keep up with the demand , cars get ordered faster than they can build them, 2nd the snow in Boston where Subaru ships the cars from was buried for the month of February and all shipments were backed up for weeks. Two things we cannot control. When the customer came to pick up the car they said because the car was late they would like an additional $1000 discount, I explained because it was a true-car transaction I could not do that, then they asked for 3 years of free maintenance, again not something I could do, then they asked for 1 year of free maintenance. At $200 over invoice there was just nothing left to give. My question is if the car had come in 4 weeks early and I called the customer and asked for $1000 more for the car how would the customer feel? We agreed on a certain price and a certain car, donaldsons honored the original agreement. I am sorry if the car was not cleaned properly when you picked it up, the customer is welcome to come to donaldsons anytime and have it detailed free of charge. Donaldsons sold the car and Donaldsons will stand behind it, we would still like the customer to be part of our Donaldsons family and move forward. Donaldsons has been proudly selling cars on Long Island for over 60 years. Again we do not build Subaru’s here we only sell and service them. Respectfully, Steven Fulco GM sales operations.

Thank you for your feedback, we always try to do our best but in this case we were just not communicating. I had told the salesperson John the value of the trade in was between $12,000 and $13,000 , keep in mind I had not looked at the car in person, the customer left and called John and said if we can offer $13,000 he would buy our car , john told him to come back to the showroom. John wrote up the agreement before having me look at the trade in, I explained to john I would need to see the trade in to give an exact amount ( we cant buy cars sight unseen ) upon looking at the trade ( which was a very nice car ) I noticed it had several very deep scratches on the left side door going into the left rear fender as well as a scrape in the rear bumper. The damage on the car would be costly to repair to make the car ready for resale. I put a value on the trade of $12500 , the paint repairs would be much more then $500 but it was a nice car. The value we offered on the trade in was exactly in between the range we quoted the customer .
