I started casually considering buying a new car about 3 weeks ago and was planning to do it maybe sometime in August or December to give myself time to offer a sizable down payment. My international divorce of 7-year length has presented a definite challenge to my credit score, so I expected the process to be painful. However, when my 5-month old Pirelli tire blew out on my car (a 1987 BMW 325 convertible) the force shattered the ceramic clutch disks and presented me with a conundrum: pay to repair the clutch, reducing down payment savings or sell the car to add to what I had right now. I had been in touch with Special Finance Manager Marco several times and he happened to call the very day the tire and clutch blew. I told him what was happening and what my options were and he assured me that I have loan approval and we set an appointment for yesterday (he even picked me up and brought me to the dealership!). During prior discussions, I shared some information about my lifestyle (I enjoy hiking, have a sled team of Siberian huskies I enjoy mushing and racing ... None of which were compatible with the beemer). I was worried that in the haste to buy a new car, I'd be forced to settle with another lifestyle incompatible vehicle. On the way to the dealership, Marco told me about a vehicle that had just come in the day prior that he thought would be perfect - a 2012 Jeep Patriot Sport 4x4 with 17k miles. I was INSTANTLY stoked. Perfect vehicle. When we arrived, we test drove the Jeep, which I loved. Marco and Finance Director James worked very hard, compassionately, and kindly to put the numbers together with terms I can afford and spoke to refinance options after the first 13 months given reasonable and achievable criteria. Since the Jeep had just arrived the prior day, it hadn't been inspected or detailed so they gave me a loaner car to use until Tuesday while they tidy that end. All in all, I found their communication and cooperation from my casual inquiry phase to the contract signing to be a truly positive, above reproach experience and I can't wait to see the financial ramifications of my divorce go on the mend while driving a vehicle that will be perfect for me.
