BUYER BEWARE! !!!!!!!!! GATEWAY KIA IS HIDING OIL CONSUMPTION AND FAILING CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AS A RESULT OF THEIR INADEQUATE VEHICLES!!! KEEP READING FOR THE TRU !!!!!!!!! GATEWAY KIA IS HIDING OIL CONSUMPTION AND FAILING CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AS A RESULT OF THEIR INADEQUATE VEHICLES!!! KEEP READING FOR THE TRUTH!!!! I purchased a 2018 Kia Sorento from Gateway Kia, brand new off the lot. I had multiple encounters with excessive oil consumption, and in order to not have the replace the engine under warranty, they coerced me into trading in for a 2019 Kia Sportage. I traded in for the 2019 Kia Sportage and purchased an extended warranty at recommendation of the salesman to help alleviate any further issues that I might have. AGAIN, we incurred oil consumption problems, and they tried to tell us that it was not covered for diagnostic steps needing to be taken. I did my research and found their Kia Service Bulletin, which clearly outlines needing to have tamper-evident seals with 1,000 miles drive between, then another check. After that, if consuming oil excessively still, they are to do an overnight engine soak to attempt to remove residual residue from the engine, which they tried to charge me $800 for. I posted my truth on Google before and all over their social medica. I spoke with Yizak Perez, their then Sales Manager, who begged me to take down the review in exchange for covering the $800 engine soak (I have e-mails to prove this). I told him I will take it down when the engine soak is complete. After that, they add a tamper evident seals again and you drive for another 1,000 miles. If you are still consuming excessive oil, they MUST REPLACE YOUR ENGINE under your warranty. I have their Kia documentation showing this for anyone who wants it, you may find me here or on Facebook. I will send you everything you need to get a new engine from Kia under warranty. They DID replace my engine, and it worked fine for a little while. They tried to not admit this was a problem, but it is a nationwide problem, and a huge one which I am part of an online group with the same issues and am instructing them all to get their new engines and be done right by Kia. I will continue to share this daily. Gateway Kia tried to HIDE this from people and continues to do so; I will continue to expose them. Fast forward to today: My check engine light came on two days ago for an engine control warning and needing attention. It went off twice, but since it is under extended warranty, I decided to make sure this was not a problem. Gateway Kia comes back to tell me it’s a catalytic converter failure code, and my vehicle will still run, but it will be upwards of $3,500 to replace. Are they joking???? They can’t be telling me after selling me TWO DUDS from their lot, at only 115,000 miles, they are suggesting my catalytic converter failed at no fault of their own? WRONG!!!! KEEP READING, IT GETS BETTER!!!! Having oil consumption problems? Kia caused your catalytic converter to FAIL, and they will claim they didn’t, but it is indeed cause by excessive oil consumption. I have this documentation as well for anyone who wants it!!!! KIA IS RESPONSIBLE!!!! Here’s some knowledge for you, so you know how to demand what is right for your Kia vehicle!!!! Excessive oil consumption leads to a bad catalytic converter. When an engine burns oil, the exhaust contains oil residue, which can coat and clog the honeycomb-structure of the catalytic converter. This contamination reduces the converter's efficiency and causes a slow, but gradual and imminent failure of the catalytic converter. Engines that burn oil release oil vapor and particles into the exhaust stream. The catalytic converter is designed to convert any harmful pollutants in the exhaust into less harmful substances through chemical reactions (if you paid attention in chemistry class, you saw this in labs with your professors). The oil residue from burning oil coats the catalyst material inside the converter, blocking the flow of exhaust gases and hindering the chemical reactions needed for proper function. His misconducts are, frankly, ridiculous and wholly misaligned with any company vision that claims customer satisfaction and centricity as a top priority. He caused all this, and made me even more angrier when I talked to him on the phone yesterday. He escalated the situation, refused to respond to my emails, and failed to suggest any resolutions to mend his collosal screw up. I still don't understand why your finance guy put through those extra warranties while deliberately disregarding my repeated refusal. If I find the need to visit your dealership one day in the far future, I might, as long as there's someone else in the finance department who can understand what the word "NO" means. A big thank you to the general manager who generously took an hour out of his day to explain everything and to help me reach a resolution. His intervention was the only positive experience I've encountered post-sale. Now I can sleep and enjoy my memorial Day weekend.
