This response from Honda Barn is a classic example of the "red herring fallacy," in which someone gives the appearance of responding to a question but doesn't actually address stated concerns (as we know, politicians use this approach all the time). Or... is it that Honda Barn didn't read my review with much care? The respondent writes, "We know how confusing it can be when something has great sentimental value to us personally, and we believe in our hearts it's worth way more than what's being offered. We get it. Unfortunately the market doesn't understand the love and care you gave to your vehicle." (Got to love that condescending tone... this translates to "oh dear customer, we're sorry you're so confused.") Yet anyone who read my review will see that I determined the worth of my vehicle not based on sentiment and emotion, but based on research into the actual market value. The fact is that if a customer with a trade-in - *any customer* - arrives as I did with documentation from Kelly Blue Book, maintenance receipts, and a well-tended-to vehicle and gets significantly low-balled, then they're going to develop distrust and report a bad experience with the business. That's just how relationships between customers and businesses work. As I wrote in my previous review, my car was old, I knew I wasn't getting squat for it, and I didn't care (saving a spankin' two dollars a month on my new $400+ car payment was not exactly top priority for me). I was just offering a smell-test to see if I could report positively on Honda Barn to friends and family, and the dealership blew it big time. It would have been easy for them to have avoided this with - as I wrote in my review - a number closer to KBB's *OR* a thoughtfully worded personal explanation from the boss (who didn't emerge from his office), but they failed. Their loss, not mine. Again, there was no real impact to me, either practical or emotional. I'm just writing this review so that potential future customers will know and think twice about using Honda Barn. A business that is low-balling a customer in one visible way is probably doing it in plenty of other less visible ways.
