Dear Marc, I am very sorry to read your account of your recent visit. I promise you, that is not who we are; simply said poor communication was where we failed. Your comparison in pricing is not apples to apples. The $2900 estimate we provided was not just for your brakes. I reviewed the quote and found nothing extraordinary about it other than the magnitude of work needed. Our professional recommendation was not to put that kind of money into a rapidly deteriorating vehicle so we made no effort to cut costs by suggesting you install aftermarket parts. Your vehicle needed extensive exhaust work , drivers door bushings had worn and needed both hinges replaced as well as some minor items. Also included in our quote, and the gravest of conditions was your rear crash beam (part of the vehicles frame)had ROTTED through. This vehicle was unsafe to operate. This type of rot is atypical of older vehicles in New England and particularly Seacoast vehicles. Once a frame starts to rot, its the logical thing to do. You end up chasing it. An expensive proposition. As to your brakes ; your visit on 3/9/17 (not May) did include an inspection of your brakes, although there was no record that you had requested this on the repair order you signed. We had the record as part of the Multi Point Inspection, an inspection we perform that is designed specifically to inform people of what's ahead and what condition the vehicle is presently in. Your pads still had plenty of "meat" or depth to them in fact there was little change between your two visits here. The problem you had with your brakes was the failure of the caliper. The caliper is in a sealed environment, can not be inspected and unfortunately, is subject to failure without warning. The failed caliper was preventing the pads and rotors from making contact, a very unsafe situation. Although we provided you with prices, our service department felt given the rotting frame it would be in your best interest to look at replacement. I am sorry you felt that we were not interested in your business because of the age of the vehicle, that could not be further from the truth. I do stand by their recommendation. I am sorry and hope this offers you a better understanding of your visit. If you wish to discuss this further, I would welcome your contact. Sincerely, Linda Murphy 603.772.7300
