Average price, overly complicated buying experience After much research, I went to Honda of Fife to purchase a new Honda Ridgeline for a company vehicle, and found the salesmen to be very courteous to d After much research, I went to Honda of Fife to purchase a new Honda Ridgeline for a company vehicle, and found the salesmen to be very courteous to deal with, but unfortunately the process quickly went downhill from there. I had a TrueCar offer from a Tacoma dealer with a base price (ie: before accessories) about $700 less than Fife, but give Fife's more convenient location, I went there first. After a pleasant test drive, I sat down with the first salesman to go over the numbers, and showed him the base price from the competing dealer to see if Fife would match it. We added the price of Fife's accessory package to the base price of what Tacoma was offering, and I signed an (apparently) meaningless piece of paper stating I was happy with that price. At this point, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this dealer was to work with, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. The agreed-on price was taken back to the "finance guys" and quickly returned with me being told there was no way Fife could hit that number and Tacoma had to be doing something else to be able to claim that low of a price. After an hour so of back-and-forth negotiations without making much progress, I was inexplicably passed off to another salesman to start the process over again. Since the second salesman had not been involved in the previous price negotiations, we had to cover much of the same information... again. Another hour later, and the price was effectively reduced a couple hundred dollars by giving us a bit more for my trade-in. The price still was not competitive with Tacoma, but Fife assured us that their "No Cost Lifetime Warranty" was more than worth the $500 or so that we were paying over the price that we had initially agreed on before having it rejected. Added to that was Fife's multiple President's Awards from Honda to assure us that we were doing business with a top-notch dealer. I was having my doubts at that point, but the amount of time I had into the negotiating at that point was quickly becoming worth more than what we stood to save by leaving. Having finally settled on a price, I went back to the finance office to start signing papers. Since this was a company vehicle, I was signing for the company who was purchasing the vehicle for my use. Rather surprisingly, the first thing the finance guy did was to try to sell me an extended warranty on top of the Fife dealer's "unlimited" warranty, since he claimed changing any paperwork I signed that day to later reflect the company name would void the dealer warranty that we had just been told would be worth the $500 price premium over a competing dealer. I stopped him at that point, and threatened to end the purchase process if that warranty would in fact be voided once the paperwork for the vehicle was updated to reflect the company's name. A phone call later, and I had a verbal assurance that the dealer warranty would not be voided, but I was still warned that a vehicle for commercial use would still not qualify. Try as I might, I couldn't get a straight answer on what "commercial use" entailed, but at that point I had lost enough time between two salesmen and a financial office who didn't know their own warranty terms, that it wasn't worth fighting any more to save the few hundred dollars. After getting paperwork signed, and having the dealer needlessly pull a credit check on my personal credit history for a vehicle I wasn't directly paying for, I asked to pay for the vehicle with electronic funds transfer from our company (which we have done without issue for multiple vehicles from multiple other dealerships in the past). I was told this was not an option, and we would have to pay with a hand-delivered cashier's check. Having exhausted all other options, the company CFO was forced to go to the bank to get said cashier's check and drive from Bellevue to Fife in Friday afternoon rush-hour traffic so we could complete the purchase. I will say that the vehicle was very nicely prepared for us with a wash and detail, and all options and settings being adjusted to my liking by the dealer. Unfortunately, that came as too little too late given the preceding hassles that had just been endured. Given the time, and by extension money, that we lost in this drawn-out purchase process, I could have effectively gotten a vehicle with the next trim level up from a more efficient dealer for the same price, or at least saved a significant amount of time and money had I gone somewhere else. Had I known then what I do now, going somewhere else would have been the smarter move. More

By the time we made our decision to purchase the car, we knew it would be an enjoyable experience. When we came by to do so, Jaylen was with another customer and Michael handled the actual transaction. He did so beautifully and provided the same quality service we enjoyed from Jaylen during our initial interactions. All in all the entire dealership provided a friendly and knowledgeable experience.
