They seem nice and mellow - but very shady practices Five hours without even a test drive...and then we walked. We had come the week before to drive cars, so we came in knowing what we wanted and prepared to drive away a couple hours later with the car. We spent maybe 30 minutes looking at options and making our decision - and then it began. For starters, the numbers they showed us for financing were based on $10k over sticker - excuse me?! They kept telling us to look at the payments breakdown to see if that suited us, deaf to our repeated statements that if they were starting at $10k too high, no numbers based on that figure would suit us. We finally got them to return to the manager, and then he came back with, "Sorry, we typed in 10k instead of 5k by mistake." Excuse me again? "Well, you know this car is really popular, that's how it's done, with a premium." No, it's not - at least not with us (and BTW, you told us you had 54 of them sitting in your lots, so there is no scarcity even if it is so popular). Another bunch of persuasion, lots more walks back and forth, and then we finally agreed on a price close to sticker. They told us the car was in one of their lots just a few minutes away but why don't we go ahead and get started on the paperwork; at this point we were three hours in, so we agreed, but my husband also insisted that we wouldn't actually sign anything before seeing the car itself. Which was a VERY good thing, because when the car finally did arrive (a full hour later), it was not the car we had negotiated for, it was missing the technology package we wanted. "But we don't have the car with that package." Never mind that you told us you did, but OK (now that we're four hours in), can you get it? "Let's look - yes, here it is in Santa Barbara, we can get it for you." OK, great, now let's talk price. "Oh no, we'll just give you the same ending place, but from the new sticker." No, we agreed to pay that amount for THIS car, not the car without the package. "Well, that's what we're prepared to do." (We were actually prepared to meet them part way, but the idea that they wouldn't even reopen the conversation or feel any responsibility for the succession of "errors" was ridiculous.) ("They're just mistakes - people make mistakes." Sure they do - but no one here even checks their own work?) So then we asked for the manager - who actually came out guns a-blazing. Didn't even wait to hear what we had to say, but somehow made it our fault because, "Why did you start paperwork on a car you hadn't even seen, let alone driven?" Again, excuse me?! Continuing to cut us off virtually every sentence that came out of either my husband's or my mouth. And then, "Who knows if we can even get the car you want? But if we can, that price is final." Um, your guys have told us it's in Santa Barbara and they've already talked to the dealer about getting it here, they're only not sure it can be done today (which, also, we were fine with). "Well, we'll see" and off he goes. Then, another guy comes out. This one at least starts by asking us what seems to be the issue, but cuts us off about two sentences in with, "Well, if we don't have the car, we can't even talk about a price." Your guys have told us the car has been located and they've already talked to the dealer, and here's the printout of the car from that dealer they gave us, and by the way, they also gave us a price. "No, no one can talk to other dealers but me, and I haven't called them, and even if I did, I know that dealer won't trade with us." WHAT??!? And then, "So, you know, we get cars all the time, we'll get this one too, so you can wait for when we get the car - it might come in tomorrow, it might come in next week, it might come in next month - and I promise you, when it comes, we will let you know, and we'll make a deal for a price you'll be happy with." And he literally walked away without even shaking our hands. So we went to track down the paperwork we had started, insisted on watching them shred it, and walked out ourselves. And should I also mention the interminably long waits at each stage (of even the standard parts of the process) - lots and lots of staff who interacted with us making useless small talk rather than actually doing the task they were meant to be doing at that time (do I need to see pictures of your car or children instead of you typing my information into the computer?)? Or the fact that they tried to guilt us into not negotiating because, "The salesman from last week when you test drove and from today need to split the commission" (well, they each only did half the job/invested half the time, no?). Or the fact that they answered all sorts of questions about the car incorrectly but because it was what I wanted to hear (things like, if I end up with manual seats, that means no heated seats too, right? "Oh no, this car has heated seats even on the non-electric ones.") (I eventually had to insist they pull out the brochure before they gave me answers, since so much of what they said turned out to be incorrect). And then there's the fact that the text asking me to rate my experience with them came at 7AM! But now here's the actual fun part. When we walked, we had the printout they had given us, so while I looked online and found at least two of the car showing at other dealers in LA and started the process of calling around, my husband called Toyota of Santa Barbara, gave him the VIN, he confirmed he had it and then said to my husband, "You see the sticker, my dealer discount is X amount, I'll give it to you for $100 over that, and yes, the financing they offered you is a Toyota deal that we can give you as well, so let me know when you'll be here and it will be waiting for you - and here, I'll send it all to you in an email before you leave town." So seriously - we got on the road 15 minutes later, were in and out of the dealership in an hour, and I have the car I want after a thoroughly pleasant experience...a true reward for five hours of car-buying grossness at the hands of Culver City Toyota! I asked them to help pay for only a portion to have it installed. They ignored my calls and attempts for over a week now. Unfortunately for them, I have evidence of everything and have documented all communication and misrepresentation. Sad they would rather lose thousands in court than simply work with someone directly. Avoid at all costs! More

Dishonest and No Follow Through I was directed to Culver City Toyota through the Costco Auto Program (which is another story of disappointment in itself). The representative I was as I was directed to Culver City Toyota through the Costco Auto Program (which is another story of disappointment in itself). The representative I was assigned with was Dexter. We had set an appointment and upon my arrival he had no idea who I was and no recollection of the set appointment. The particular build of the vehicle I was looking for was very specific and rare, so I entered this encounter with low expectations of finding it in the first place. After searching though Dealer Daily, Dexter stated that he had found the exact vehicle I was looking for. He proceeded to take down my information and even got to the point where he RAN MY CREDIT before successfully allocating the vehicle. Upon my own investigation I had asked if the vehicle was a "demo" car and he and his manager stated that it was. That was a complete lie I later found out due to my own research. After they had ran my credit his manager came out to let me know that they were unable to locate and finalize the deal. His manger told me to wait three weeks and the car would surely show up. I naively waited with the promise from Dexter's manager that they would be on the look out for my vehicle and contact me when it is found. Two weeks had passed and I tried to contact Dexter multiple times for an update with NO RESPONSE. During my hopeless wait I found the VIN of the vehicle that they were originally trying to obtain and called the dealership. The dealership was in San Diego and they stated that it was NOT a demo car and they had just sold it two days before I had called. It turns out that Dexter, his manager and Culver City Toyota did not want to pay for the vehicle transfer for the price that he had originally quoted me, so they made up that it was a demo/used car to get me back out of the deal. The exact car that was "so hard to find" had been there all along and even after running my credit they decided that they misquoted me on the price and lied about it. With my own research I had confirmed that on the day I had visited Culver City Toyota there were TWO dealerships (San Diego and Manhattan Beach) that had the EXACT car I was looking for. Dexter and his team failed to relay this information to me because they "did not make trades with that dealership". Until this day I still have not received ANY follow up from Culver City or Dexter after multiple attempts. I have purchased the exact car that I was looking for a competitive price from another dealership. For someone who had been researching for months and waiting for the exact vehicle to appear it was a crushing experience to have it come so close only to find out that the dealership that was supposed to help me (Culver City Toyota) lied to save themselves from losing money after misquoting an offer to me. Another tangent note is that their internet sales room should probably be inspected for mold as there was clearly a significant amount of water damage on the ceiling and walls when I was there. Smelled of it as well. More

Completely Satisfied From what I have experienced so far, I am a fan. I should mention first that Toyota was offering a choice of $2,000 rebate OR 0% financing for up to 7 From what I have experienced so far, I am a fan. I should mention first that Toyota was offering a choice of $2,000 rebate OR 0% financing for up to 72 months. The offer expired on October 2. This seemed like an excellent time to buy so I started searching for inventories. I most definitely wanted a stick shift. There aren't that many of them around (probably only about 3% of all iMs out there) and I was very particular about the color (black or blue). Turns out Culver City Toyota had a blue one and nobody else had anything but silver or white (either of which would have been a deal breaker in my book), so, even though there are probably at least half a dozen Toyota dealerships between where I live and Culver City, I e-mailed the dealer contact through cars.com, explained my "situation" (way upside down on my trade-in but with a small handful of cash) and we agreed that a deal was doable at a very reasonable price and I should come down and fill out a credit app. In the meantime, I did my due diligence. I checked online to see what my trade-in was realistacally worth. I figured out how much the new car should cost, cross-checked with truecar.com to make sure the price on the new one was good...it was...so by the time I arrived at the dealership, I was really only concerned with the interest rate. The dealership was great. Everyone was smiling. Several people offered a bottle of water, or coffee, or whatever I might like. I met with the internet rep, Shally Cruz, who promptly took me for a test drive. Then, she prepared a document listing all the values that we had previously discussed by e-mail (new car price, trade-in value, cash down, etc) and their offer for my trade-in was only $100 off of what I had estimated. We did a TINY bit of haggling over interest rates and that was that. Very seamless process. The finance man, Pratt Harit, was charming and friendly while still being efficient and as fast as possible. Normally, this is the part of the car-buying process I dread but Pratt made it painless. When I told him I hadn't eaten all day (it was past 2pm by this point) he practically insisted on having a sandwich provided for me. I thanked him but said no to that...but who does that in this day and age? These are the little things that people notice and that build loyalty. This is only a review of the Sales Department. I have not had any interactions with the Service Department yet. I confess that I only chose these folks because they had THE car I wanted, but they made the experience perfectly easy. I would recommend Culver City Toyota in a heartbeat and I would return just as quickly. More
