I towed my car here after it stopped on 14JUL25. The engine ran but there was no power. They ran an engine compression test and said there was low compression in one cylinder. They advised me that I needed a new engine @ approx. $10,000.00. I informed them that I had purchased a Vehicle Service Protection plan when I brought the car used. They contacted me a couple days later and said the warranty company needed all of the service records on the car. I emailed my copies of service to the dealer. They called again a couple of days later and said the warranty co. requests an engine teardown to component level to determine the failed part @ a cost of $4,500.00 and I would have to pay that to get started. I called the dealer I purchased the car from, Dirito Brothers VW Walnut Creek, and explained the problem. They called me back and said they could put a factory rebuilt engine in for $3,700.00 parts and labor. I had the car towed to them. They called me two days later and told me the engine was fine, their techs were driving the car trying to figure out the problem. They called me back a few days later and said they figured the problem out and the reason it took them so long to figure it out was because all of the fault codes had been erased. Turns out the Catalytic Converter was bad. They replaced that along with the Crank shaft Sensor @ a $1,825.00 total cost for parts. I received my car on 09AUG25 and have been driving it since with no problems. I called the warranty company and was informed that they NEVER REQUESTED SERVICE RECORDS, NOR EVER RECEIVED ANY. NEVER REQUIRED AN ENGINE TEARDOWN, AND THAT THERE WAS NO CLAIM EVER FILED FOR THIS ISSUE WITH CONTRY KIA. HOW/WHY DID ALL OF THE FAULT CODES GET ERASED? As a 65yo veteran who still has to work in order to eat, this type of misleading/untrue customer service is NOT what I need. WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE More
