We were shopping for a reliable used vehicle for our daughter who just graduated college. We told the salesman multiple times that she had been pre-approved at our local bank for a specific amount. He immediately started telling her he wished she had a better budget & he could get her into a brand new vehicle if she had more money. I explained to him that her budget is tight and she’s trying to factor in the additional cost of full coverage insurance being so high at her age plus even higher if she purchased a newer, more expensive vehicle. He didn’t care about any of that. He was only looking to make a sale and line his own pockets. She found a good little used vehicle there she was very interested in purchasing but his sales manager refused to budge on the price, only offering to come down $300, not offering to repair the damaged trim, add floor mats or anything. And then the sales manager started trying to push using their own finance companies after we had clearly stated that she had a good interest rate and was pre-approved with our own bank. They kept saying the price was so good because they had just marked the vehicle down $3,000. However, according to Kelley Blue Book, their starting price was overpriced to begin with by exactly $3,000. So, although their price was now more in line with the value, they were still making a decent profit and yet they refused to come down an additional $200. My husband & I have purchased from Lawrence Hall previously and plan to be upgrading our own vehicles in the near future but we won’t be considering purchasing from Lawrence Hall again. This was a very bad experience for our daughter’s first car purchase. We just expect the car dealer to be fair and honest without trying to push you into buying something you cannot afford. Especially a young female just starting out in life. It was very disappointing! More
