We put a $2,000 deposit down on a McLaren to hold it, pending inspection from McLaren Chicago and paid the $1,500 cost of having it hauled to the dealer and inspected. In addition to two smaller routine maintenance issues, they found problem with a suspension actuator that needed replacing. Eric Wang, who is the sales manager at MCC, agreed to have that repair done and cover the cost of the replacement. He went so far as to send our car broker a buyer’s agreement for us to sign (which they failed to sign themselves). Then literally an hour later, after a week and a half of time and effort and despite having our deposit, they reneged on our verbal agreement and sold the car to someone else, right out from under us. We are still waiting for them to return our deposit. They will be hearing from our attorneys. To top it off, when we tried to address the situation with the general manager, Ray Rehan, he was dismissive and rather nasty. This is an incredibly dishonest and unprofessional establishment! Business practices of this sort are always unpleasant but when you’re about to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a vehicle, it’s unconscionable. Consumers should not be treated this way. We highly recommend looking for a car elsewhere unless you want to be jerked around and treated exceptionally poorly. More

Based on that claim, I put down a $2,000 deposit—only to later find out the car had excessive modifications and custom tuning. That’s not a small oversight, that’s outright misrepresentation. If I had known the truth, I would have never handed over $2,000. When I requested a refund because of their false advertising, they completely ghosted me. No response, no explanation—just silence. That alone tells you everything about how they treat customers once they have your money. And it gets worse—they tried to tack on $3,096 in add-ons: a $1,098 Waypoint GPS package and a $1,998 appearance protection plan. On a 7-year-old Golf R. That’s nearly 10% of the car’s value for questionable extras. This isn’t a high-end exotic—it’s a used performance hatchback. The pricing is absurd and feels predatory. This dealership comes across as dishonest, misleading, and completely unwilling to take responsibility. I strongly recommend avoiding Motor Cars of Chicago at all costs. More
