I was very lucky to be helped by him, as he has a very gentle demeanor. He was also quite aware of my financial difficulties at this time, and he did everything possible to make my experience pleasant and stress-free. I also really appreciate that Tom is honest and never once mis-led me in any way. I trust him completely and would recommend him to anyone. As an Amica customer, I had access to their car connection service. I found a savings certificate at Boch Honda that was a very good deal, so I decided to check it out. They were very friendly and connection service. I found a savings certificate at Boch Honda that was a very good deal, so I decided to check it out. They were very friendly and helpful. They talked to me in advance about their financing rates. I was still waiting for my insurance payment from Amica, but they said I could do all the paperwork and write a check for the down payment which they would hold until I gave them the go-ahead to cash it. So I decided to buy a car from them. I worked with Marc Heroux as my sales consultant. He was great. I had already spent some time driving around a friend's 2013 Civic, so I was mostly interested in my color options and taking a quick look at the particular vehicle I would end up buying. Marc helped me out with all of that, pointed out some neat features, etc. I did, unfortunately, embarrass myself a little: I thought the saving's certificate ensured me $3000 off a negotiated price, and I insisted it was true, despite Marc's efforts to explain otherwise. Turns out it just entitles me to that much off the MSRP. However, even through this process, Marc was patient and respectful, despite being frustrated, and when I confirmed his explanation with the Amica Car Connection customer service, he was as friendly and congenial as ever. When I checked out the paperwork, I was really pleased to note that there were *no* fees other than delivery (always included in the MSRP) and the doc fee, which was no higher than had been advertised. Their doc fee is a little high: at $369 it's definitely above the MA average of ~$200...but I didn't feel that it was worth it to haggle over $169. Then they told me that they were able to do all the RI tax, title and registration paperwork, even though they're located in MA. They even charged me the RI sales tax, which meant I wouldn't have to submit extra and incur a processing charge later. I'd never bought a car from a dealer before, so I don't know if this is generally how it works or not, but I was so relieved that I wouldn't be going to the DMV at all. Then it was time to deal with financing. I knew this was wear I was going to be sweet talked and have useless extras pushed on me. Perhaps this was naive of me, but I didn't know I would be lied to. The first thing Rik Turner told me was that I hadn't qualified for the promotional financing of 0.9% APR for 60 months. I believed him; I'm young and my credit history is only a few years old. He said I could get the more standard 3.49% APR, which is still quite a good deal, so I wasn't that upset. Then he broke out his brochure of add-ons and tried to get me to buy things that had no real value or that I had no need for. I politely but firmly declined. Then he told me that if I bought gap coverage and extended service, he could get me 1.9% APR through a "back door." This sounded suspicious to me, and I wasn't ready to go for it. But to get more information, I asked him outright if I would have a lower monthly payment with a higher principle but a lower APR than if I had the higher APR and the lower principle. In retrospect I should have listened to my gut. I should have asked him what specific numbers the payments would be, or gotten out a loan calculator on my iPhone. But since it was late and I'd been there 3 hours, I signed up for the two add-ons and took the lower APR. When I looked over the paperwork more thoroughly at home, I checked it both on an online loan calculator, AND did it out by hand to check the numbers. Rik had lied. My monthly payment with a smaller loan with 3.49% over 72 months was lower than the deal he had pushed me into. I was mad. And I felt foolish. I knew that as a young woman, I was an easy target for F&I guys, but I had let my guard down. But the saying is fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. So I decided I was going to ask the guys who fooled me once to fix the problem. I asked my dad if he would co-sign, and he agreed, and I decided to get back in touch with Rik to either get me the promotional rate with my dad co-signing, or just let me have the lower loan with the 3.49% APR. He was out of the office, so I called Marc. Marc said he wasn't really able to help me, and he was off site that day, so I called the dealership and tried to get answers. I got transferred around, and I left voicemails, but no one called me back. The same happened the next morning. I was feeling frustrated and angry. Finally, on the Better Business Bureau website, I found the number for the general manager of the dealership. I left him a voicemail saying that I had been lied to, that no one was returning my calls, and I was feeling very frustrated and unhappy. He called me back right away and apologized. He said he would get someone to call me back right away. Within minutes I got a call from Eric Langone. I explained the situation, and he looked into my file for me, and asked what I was hoping for. I told him that I would like to at least switch to the 3.49% APR without the add-ons, or preferably have my father cosign to get the promotional rate. Eric was confused, and he said, "But you qualify for the promotional rate already." To confirm, I asked him, "I qualify for the 0.9% for 60 months too? I don't have to take add-ons to get it?" Eric told me that of course I didn't have to take any add-ons; I just qualified. Rik had started out with a lie, one that I don't even feel embarrassed to have believed, and followed up with a lie about buying extras to get in through a "back door"--a completely ludicrous idea that I should have made him explain, but didn't out of being too timid. So I told Eric that I wanted to get the 0.9% over 60 months with no add ons, if it was still possible. It was, and we were able to fill out the new paperwork that day. I have mixed feelings about Boch Honda. I strongly considered bailing on the sale even after Eric fixed things for me. But in the end, Marc, Mark and Eric were on my team and treated me well, even though Rik did his best to scam me. I definitely didn't want to screw Marc over by backing out of a sale with him. Also, Bernardi Honda didn't have the color I'd picked out. So the story has a happy ending, and I'll be getting my car as soon as they've finished the registration and vehicle prep process. And I'll know better the next time I have to buy a car. More
Started with a truecar.com price. This dealer had lowest price so sent them an email. Various people responded all assuring me they had car in stock in both the colors I wanted and price was accurate. Wen price so sent them an email. Various people responded all assuring me they had car in stock in both the colors I wanted and price was accurate. Went to dealership next morning and waited 30 mins while they looked at my trade in. Then they took another 20 mins on the paperwork. FInally when it came time to see the vehicle they looked puzzled and told me that they didn't have any cars in stock in the colors I wanted. They proceeded to upsell me on a different color, but the price they quoted me would not be honored. Typical bait and switch. When I told them I was leaving, the sales manager came out and became very aggressive. Very frustrating experience. I would NOT recommend this dealership. Fore what it's worth, we also bought a Toyota a few years ago and Boch Toyota was also a disappointing experience (not as bad as the experience above, but still negative). More
