After researching I found out that the reason for the price gap was because of the dealership being a good old fashioned “in it for the people and just want to pass those commissions down to the working man good hearted company”, the vehicle had a salvaged title. Not just a fender bender, whoopsies. We’re talking multiple air bag deployments and “major” structural damage. So many red flags on the carfax it could have been advertising a carnival. Yikes! A professional preowned car sales specialist woman (or something along those lines) Gigi reached back out to me to answer all my questions. Now I don’t know about you, but I’m a nurse and not a professional vehicle specialist. So of course I’ve never heard the phrase ”rebranded” title. To you and I, it’s the same as a SALVAGED TITLE. Of course everyone knows what that means. The name says it all. Rebranded is nicer to hear though. Not so serious. What’s “rebranded” mean you ask? So basically that’s the human made repairs made with aftermarket parts to total loss vehicles basically, then selling them practically, not completely though, as new or newer vehicles. What a deal!!! Which if you feel like I do, when something seems a little too good to be true, it is. Every single time. Like I said, I’m no pro, but I’m not stupid either. I found issue in the way she spoke to me for many reasons. The first being the absolute heir of “I’m a professional in the industry and you’re just a small ignorant peasant who is obviously to dumb to understand, let me break this down in to simpleton terms so you can understand ( whilst using her vocabulary word of the day calendar sitting on her desk)” attitude. The worst patronizing I’ve ever experienced. From the jump. Immediate ICK. I’m a plain and simple, salt of the earth kinda girl. Straight forward, what you see is what you get. Honest. Even when it sucks. I kept noticing with each exchange with good ole Gigi, she was getting more and more xxxxxx off with my line of questioning. Like insuring a salvaged title vehicle is next to or down right impossible. As it should be. Most banks won’t touch them either. As it should be. It voids factory warranty. As it should. These vehicles are a big part of why personal injury lawyers stay so busy. And rule of thumb is salvaged titles are worth about half of the original value, no matter how much make up and lipstick you put on them. I don’t care what level of training and certification a the body guy that lovingly repairs a total loss vehicle has, but I know for sure it’s not going to be the same quality of an auto manufacturing plant with robots that don’t make mistakes (or if they do it’s a tiney tiny fraction compared to a human repair) especially in welds, joints, you know the structural integrity of a vehicle or of a salvaged vehicle. And when buying a vehicle, is the top priority for me, and most people that have ever survived a horrific crash and the pain and suffering that comes after would agree with and why safety is our top priority. Gigi went to talk about all of these “in house” options they had available. Insurance, loans, warranties, etc. Another immediate red flag. In my simpleton brain that means that they’ve had trouble with the bigger legit guys like the Wells Fargo’s, Citi Bank, Alfa’s, State Farm’s of the country right? The main stream guys won’t touch these vehicles? Why? Their in house guys…never heard of them. The most common and random names. Could be the name of a neighborhood. Or a check cashing place.
