I asked Bill if he could request an exception from GM since the car has low milage & since the electric steering design had issues. Bill talked GM into paying for replacement of the electric steering motor saving my mother-in-law $500+ that she couldn't afford. He also called my mother-in-law 24 hours after the repair to confirm that all is well. More

We came in here two days ago intent on purchasing that day. We were considering the Cruze (great if you have no back seat passengers smaller than a toddler), the Malibu (much better until they became pret day. We were considering the Cruze (great if you have no back seat passengers smaller than a toddler), the Malibu (much better until they became preteens unless short stature runs in the family) and the HHR (very bad blind spots & basically an Aveo on steroids; smaller than even the Malibu by a good 5-6"). I will say my other half and I loved the sportiness of the Cruze. The dash design is beautiful, sleek and functional. Our son said it was "cool". If back leg room was not such a huge issue, it would have been great for us, even with my six foot tall husband. The salesman we were handed to was great. He listened alright, he still threw sales pitches, but he was lower-pressure and nice. Those last two things really go a long way for us; so we were able to overlook having to ask for a drink for the kids five times before actually receiving something. They offered to begin with! After we were done test driving, we decided to crunch numbers. Before we drove anything we had them appraise our trade-in: an '06 Sonata with all the bells and whistles. Honestly, there was front bumper damage and that does ding the value. We get that. However, they tried to tell us the car was completely less than worthless. Basically they tried to tell us the car was worth a few thousand negative and they would be eating the entire amount we owed and then some. We had already spoken to a Mercury dealer, a Ford dealer and a Toyota dealer. All of those dealers offered over half of what we owed on it. We still had negative equity. We expected that. We didn't expect what this dealer told us. Moving forward with the finance department: we told them we would not accept that figure and we were interested in possibly the Malibu or the HHR as both had good incentives right now. They made us sit and wait for half an hour before coming back the first time to tell us that despite our tier 1 credit that we would have to provide a minimum of $1500 cash down and our trade in or buy something considerably more expensive. Bait and switch anyone!! We said NO! I was ready to ditch right then. My other half told them the truth: we had already been fully approved with no cash down at three other dealers and threw the ball back in their court so they could waste another fifteen to twenty minutes of our night. I had been researching depreciation values on my phone while waiting and the HHR depreciates at a rate of 38% minimum in the first 5 years with 20K per year (average for most drivers). Keep in mind these are 2011 vehicles! Now granted, if the vehicle had less negatives and the finance and management were not total jerks, we may have made the leap anyway. That is not relevant though. Look at nada under the vehicle stats: in the left tab is "cost of ownership". This could save a lot of people headaches like we almost brought upon ourselves. I had always been a GM/Chevy person my whole life. This experience really soured me towards them. I have already thrown the towel in on Hyundai. They make decent cars and we really did like our Hyundai's features. However the customer service is apparently on the same level as Chevy: in the negative. More
