All my services except 1 were conducted by KIA Alcoa and prior services have been 5 star. However, I had complained of excessive road noise on my Sept service and was told 2 tires were cupped and both h prior services have been 5 star. However, I had complained of excessive road noise on my Sept service and was told 2 tires were cupped and both had been placed on rear of vehicle. They advised "vehicle is safe to drive and it will not cause any issues" (in writing). Never having dealt with "cupped" tires before, I didn't pursue any further. Note: there was no recommendation to perform a wheel alignment at this service. Also note that other than road noise, there was no other indication of a problem (such as vibration or steering issues). As I continued to put miles on, the noise became louder. Just prior to taking in for this service, I looked at the tires. I found the front were now severely cupped (with 4k miles since rotation) and the rear were less than half as bad as the front (note: they were put on the rear at last service). All cupping was on the inside only. Based on this, I immediately took it in for an early service and to get the noise/tire problem corrected. I was expecting to get new tires and at this point, an obvious wheel alignment. At this service (Nov), the left side tires had 6/32 tread and right side tires had 5/32 tread left. Except for the cupped area, tires/tread were in excellent condition for 42k miles and likely could have given me at least 20k more miles if an alignment had been recommended and performed at the Sep service. I rolled in at 9:15. Having laid out my case to be given some compensation for this issue, I thought I would see a reasonable estimate for the repair. A couple hours later, I was given an estimate over $1100 for new tires (w/free alignment). After further discussion to no avail, I said it makes no sense to proceed as I can get the tires cheaper down the road. At this point, I was told they could price match. Why this wasn't already done given the circumstances is beyond me. At this point, with the car still up on the rack (12:15), I agreed to the price matched tires. At 2:15, a service rep comes in to offer a car and said they are backed up. When asked how long, he said about an hour. I got the final call just before 4:00 (6.5 hours). Before checking out and given the whole experience, I ask the Service Manager for further compensation and suggest the oil change service be included at no cost. This was immediately shot down. At this point we are down to a 2 star rating. The Service Manager goes over the paperwork with me, to include the alignment results. This is first time looking at alignment results and at this point I'm more focused on getting out of there. I figure I'll go over everything later. Next day comes around and I have time to review the results and research causes of cupped tires. I find that suspension parts can affect cupping but they told me suspension looked good. Next on the list was Camber which will affect toe. My "before measurements" showed my right/front Camber, and left and right Toe was out of tolerance. And the reason for 1 star rating... MY "CURRENT MEASUREMENTS" SHOW MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH R/F CAMBER STILL OUT OF TOLERANCE. I sent an e-mail to the service manager yesterday with two questions and have not heard back as of this posting 11/19. More
