We had to replace a vehicle that was flooded. We were looking for an American made small/mid-size truck in a base model extend cab w/auto trans. The Ram Dakota fit the bill. Using the USAA buying service, we received 3 offers from local dealers. The exact model we wanted was not available at the closest dealer (we chose a discontinued model), so we used the base model price as a starting point. Troy offered an upgraded model at a price that was very close to the base model (+$1700). Considering the upgrades, it was not unreasonable. Leo offered better financing than USAA. So the higher price was offset by the lower interest rate. Overall we purchased a better truck for less money. Additional products (bed liner, extended warranty, etc.) were very competitively priced and offered with "no pressure". We were in/out in about an hour. We arrived at 8 pm with a closing time of 9 and did not feel pressured to complete the transaction. Bottom line: Do your homework, know your pricing and tell them what you want/need. Decide if you will purchase "extras" and any "gap" insurance as you can roll these into the total financing. They will work hard to make a deal. Just like any major purchase, EVERYTHING is negotiable. If not, walk away. I feel Safford Dodge worked every figure I was concerned about and we both ended up with a great transaction.
