Signed a lease for a brand-new 2021 Toyota Sienna LE today. This was the second time I’ve worked with Jorge Pico. On February 23rd, I signed a contract for a new Avalon at Sansone, leaving a deposit. I returned the next day to pay the balance due and take delivery. After an initial disagreement on the information required for registration, the salesman Danny Zeledon called over the Finance Manager, Nestali Deleon. After some discussion with me agreeing to provide the requested info, Mr. Deleon reflecting on our exchange, raised his voice and stormed across the showroom floor screaming something to the effect, “Give him back his deposit. I’m canceling this deal.” I don’t know if his actions were intended to embarrass or intimidate me as a gay man, but they did neither. Mr. Deleon’s professionalism (or lack thereof) is almost irrelevant. The facts are that Sansone and I had both signed a contract, I had fulfilled my obligation under the contract by paying for the car in full, and while the car was prepped and ready for delivery, it was not delivered. Mr. Deleon seemed to think his emotions were a legal basis for unilaterally voiding the contract - effectively leaving only the customer bound to the contract. I believe the New Jersey State Attorney General’s Office would disagree. More
