Much like everyone else when you purchase a vehicle from David Maus you are treated quite well and made to feel special. Come time to have my Tundras tires rotated and balanced I considered having the dealership do the work. I was also having a Nitrogen tire fill done at this time which will be discussed later in this letter. Before committing though I asked the service department if they used the same balancing weights as those that come from the factory when performing this service. They are a good looking weight and I did not want those ugly aftermarket weights on my new vehicle. They agreed that they did so I agreed to have the work done and my vehicle was returned to me with the weights which I had requested.This was also the case with my next rotate and balance. However when I had my third rotate and balance done my vehicle came back with those ugly aftermarket weights that I told them I did not want. When I questioned the service manager about this he told me that he could not afford to install those expensive weights on my vehicle. When I told him this was my third rotate and balance and so far my vehicle had come back with the weights we had agreed upon he told me that they reuse the same weights when they can and then go to the cheaper weights when the originals can no longer be used. When I told him this was not what we had agreed upon he said he would order a box of those weights and call me when they came in and I could come back and have them swapped out. Weeks passed without a call so I called to find out when I could come in to have the weights swapped out. I was told they had changed their mind and that since I had nothing in writing showing that they had agreed to supplying those particular weights they were not obligated to supply them. It was at this time that I told them that I would no longer be using David Maus for any future work on my vehicle. Now as for the Nitrogen tire fill. When done the dealership installed Stainless Steel valve caps with the N/2 symbol on them. I was told that was done so anyone would know that Nitrogen had been installed in the tires. I didn't understand why this was necessary as nitrogen is a non combustible gas but the caps looked nice. I had no idea that those caps where going to cause me one huge headache in the future. Every 5,000 miles I rotate and balance my vehicles tires and I routinely check the tires pressure in between these services. I replaced the tires at 60,000 miles at Tire Kingdom in Fla. and also purchased a lifetime rotate and balance contract at that time. I asked for the tires to be refilled with Nitrogen but Tire Kingdom does not do nitrogen tire fills. As I had no issues with the N/2 caps that the David Maus dealership had installed I left them on because as I said they looked nice. On Christmas day 2012 I moved to N.C. and one week later had my first rotate and balance done in that state. I had the work done at Tire Kingdom. It was winter now and the occasional snow and road salting was about to teach me something about stainless steel valve caps. After driving only twice on salted roads I washed my vehicle and as I normally do at this time I tried to check the pressure in my tires. I tried to remove the first valve cap with my fingers but it would not budge. I had to use a wrench and with a snap it came off. I could see that there was something on the stem where the cap had been that looked like some sort of corrosion. I tried to remove the second cap and with almost no effort the cap came off but along with it came the valve stem where the cap had been attached. The actual valve was still inside but most of the threads were exposed. I did not want to chance breaking off any more so I took my vehicle to Jim Barkley Toyota in Asheville as Toyota had installed the caps in the first place and I needed a new stem installed on the one that broke. When I showed them the broken stem and the caps they said and I quote "You should have never installed those metal caps on the aluminum stems due to the electrolysis that occurs between the two metals". He then asked me who installed them and when I told him the Toyota dealership where I purchased the truck put them on he really had nothing else to say except that he sees this all the time. When the salt from the road gets between the two metals it causes them to corrode and fuses the two metals together. I told him since a certified Toyota service dep't. had installed those caps I wanted a certified Toyota dep't. to remove them. This way if they broke I could get the David Maus dealership to cover the cost of the repairs as they had installed the caps. In trying to remove the remaining caps they broke both stems. This time the valves came out with the stems. I called David Maus and informed them and after being transferred to almost everyone there I was eventually put back in touch with the liar in the service department that I had the wheel weight issue with. His response to me was that since I hadn't had my tires rotated and balanced there they were not responsible. When I told him that I was not obligated to have them do that work on my vehicle he said that my warranty was expired anyway. I told him that I would call Toyota an tell them that David Maus had removed the factory installed caps while the vehicle was still under warranty and installed the aftermarket caps that I never asked for. His response to this was that's fine I have the number right here if you want it. I called Toyota and explained to them what had happened. They called David Maus and I received a call from Caroline Reed their customer relations representative. I explained to her what had happened and she said they have to put those caps with the N/2 on so people doing tire work will know that there is Nitrogen in the tires. I told her I didn't really care why but that I did expect to be reimbursed as those $2.00 caps were going to cost me $511 due to the damage they had caused to my vehicle. I told her that as I was out of town I could leave my vehicle at the Asheville dealership an extra day and this would give David Maus the opportunity to work something out with Jim Barkley to lessen the cost of the repairs as they are both Toyota dealerships. They made no effort to contact that dealership and I had to pay the $511 to get my truck back. After much back and forth with both Toyota and the David Maus dealership I received an e-mail from Mr. Gutcheon, David Maus's service director, informing me that I or someone else may have installed the aftermarket caps that caused the damage and for that reason they refuse to accept any responsibility in the matter. I informed Mr. Gutcheon that by their own admission they had in fact installed the aftermarket caps that were on my vehicle when the damage occurred to which he never responded. The David Maus dealership has to this day made no effort to resolve this matter and has instead turned it over to their attorney. This is convenient as apparently he is a business partner of David Maus. Their hope is that I will give up as the hurdles of pursuing this in court will be difficult as I am in N.C. and the case will have to be tried in Florida. So the big dealership and their attorney will fight the worthless little consumer over $511 that by their own admission their are responsible for thereby proving their arrogance. So when you walk into the David Maus dealership and see all those smiling faced employees just remember that their only purpose is to take you for as much money as they can. When you no longer provide an income stream for them they will throw you overboard and smile as you float downstream. By the way, have you ever wondered what those little headsets they wear are for? If you are having an issue with someone wearing one there don't be surprised to see someone else show up to get involved in your conversation. That's what the headsets are for. If you put the employee on the spot they open the mike so a higher up can hear the conversation. They are trained to deal with people with problems so as not to have other customers in the dealership overhear your issues with David Maus. Now you know. More

Now, I understand the point of a car dealership is for the employees to sell cars. However, in the USA, I have a right and choice to decide where I am buying a vehicle. After expressing interest in a Corolla, I informed the gentleman helping me that I was not purchasing the same day, but I was curious about prices. He informed me that to get a price, I had to be serious about purchasing. After finally getting him to work with giving me an estimate of costs for my trade it, and lease vs. buying, I knew I still was not prepared to purchase that same day, as I had clearly told him before. Instead of allowing me to think about the decision, he involved another manager who basically told me that because I signed a paper on the table saying I was inquiring about prices, that I was telling them I was going to buy there car. A surprise came up in the Carfax for the vehicle I was trading in that I did not know about, and I was shocked and could not exactly think straight on how to handle it as of course it was affecting the value of my vehicle. As I explained to them that it was an error, rather than explain to me that errors can be fixed with Carfax if proper documentation is submitted, they basically called me a liar because "It's on Carfax" and would not even listen to me, and could not understand my hesitation to take the extremely low offer on my trade in. The sales manager even smirked at me and asked why I was mad at HIM for the situation. I just had information given to me that was not accurate and I was trying to process it, and they were trying to prey on me at a weak moment. Fortunately, I managed to move my feet and walk out of there as fast as I could. Right to another great local dealership who not only helped me resolve the Carfax issue, but sold me a better car with much better service... and a better price! Bottom line - if you want to feel pushed, pressured, and bullied into buying a vehicle, go to David Maus Toyota. Oh, and they had the nerve to send me an e-mail the next morning letting me know they hoped I enjoyed my experience, not to mention the never ending phone calls and messages they are leaving me even after I blocked their phone number. Even the Manager was of no help as he in other words basically accused us of lying. The company has neglected to return calls, Yes, even Mr. Maus himself. We purchased parts we were told would work on the vehicle. We brought them in and after 8 days. A call Finally....... the parts wont work!! Wow!! I only had one day to return them and that has come and gone. The place we bought them from will not take returns on used Equipment but did give us 2 days to return if needed. Too late now.They never tried to help or even see what else can be done.Im stuck with 1200.00 parts. We have been ignored, we have been completely bullied by a Large company that think they can..,. And we still dont have the car. I refuse to back down from this!! Im using all resources that I know through my Business, my friends the internet and I called Toyota Inc in California. My wife took our corolla in for an oil change and to have the right front tire checked for a leak, as we have been adding air to it monthly. She left there with a 'B' service which we did not want or ask for. It cost me $270.20 in total. Included was a Z-tech additive and a C500 oil conditioner. Our intention was to have the extended bumper to bumper warranty (which we purchased when we bought the car at David Maus 2 years ago) applied for the tire issue. I was not able to leave work to take the car in myself and David Maus took total advantage. In effect they stole from me. How does an oil change turn into a $270 bill? I guess thats just good salesmanship. I will never ever use David Maus again. And as a professional accountant at a large global corporation here in Orlando, I will be sure to tell my story to the many engineers and accountants I work with. More

Negotiated all day for an Internet sale of a new Prius. After haggeling all day, they finally said to come down, my trade in price they gave me would probably be higher once I got there. Drove all the way there and the trade was still over 1k less than the book. I offered to split the difference with them and they wouldn't. They let me walk. I wouldnt really mind except I took time out of my busy schedule to drive all of the way there, not to mention gas and tolls.That is why I insisted that the deal be done in advance, and I would just come in to sign and drive. I am sure they thought once I was there, they could get me to sign on thier terms. Didn't happen. The deal could have worked if it wasn't for thier crazy $799.00 dealer fee and jacked up dealer add ons like "paint protector" etc. that was the second chance I have given them to deal with me and they blew it. I even emailed the salesman and sales manager as soon as I left to thank them for thier time, and say that i was sorry the deal couldnt get done.Neither responded. This was after I got about 20+ emails from each today trying to sell the car. Yes, they did go down on the price, but they were just jacking me on my trade to do so. Sorry David Maus, that was your last chance with this buyer, I am going elsewhere tomorrow. More

In my 60 years of automobile shopping, Dan Martin has topped them all. He did not haggle or irritate me and my wife at any time. Also he did not pressure us in any way. We especially noted the free car washes that are offered that no other dealer that I know of give. We have purchased a 2011 Prius and had leather seats installed, also had the window rain guards installed which turned out way better that we expected. Excellent job done, car looks super great.
