There is a world of difference between my treatment by Falcone and my treatment by Speedway. I negotiated my entire deal with Falcone by telephone--took less than 25 minutes. I was given a firm but fair offer for my trade-in (consistent with the Kelley Blue Book estimate) and a fair purchase price for my new vehicle (which was actually lower than the KBB "fair purchase price"). I accepted the initial deal offer and provided a $500 deposit via credit card. Falcone accepted my description of my trade-in condition, my mileage, and equipment without even inspecting my trade-in. Falcone trusted me, likely in view of my prior dealings with the dealership. Approximately 2 weeks before my new vehicle was to arrive, I was informed that my salesman was terminated and also discovered that this terminated salesman had ordered the incorrect interior color. The general manager gave me the option of re-ordering (which would take an additional 4-6 weeks) at the same price or receiving an additional discount off the MSRP. I took the additional discount. This is the way honest dealerships are conducted. Also, Falcone was literally famous for "no dealer fees ever" in its TV advertisements. By contrast, Speedway all but refused to give a firm trade-in value for my trade-in. It wanted to wait until my new vehicle arrived to negotiate the trade-in value. The only quasi-firm number I got was $23,000--$2500 LESS than the KBB valuation. My 4-year-old vehicle has less than 12,000 miles, but Speedway wanted to equate my vehicle with those having 40,000 to 60,000 miles in attempting to convince me that its valuation was fair. Then, the topper was that Speedway's wanted to charge me more than $500 above the KBB "fair purchase price" for the new vehicle. Altogether, a $3000 Rip-Off--I walked-out in disgust. Speedway knew that I had an extensive background in auto dealership sales (my family operated a GM dealership for more than 55 years) and knew I had done my KBB and Edmond's research. Nonetheless, Speedway thought it was a good idea to quote these numbers. Yes, I was insulted and was incredulous with the apparent arrogance. So, if an educated and knowledgeable customer gets that kind of a quote, what can the relatively uneducated and/or naive customer expect? And would such a customer even know he/she had been overcharged? This is clearly an "old school" dealership, and not in a good way.
