Tonkin Mazda of Portland

We just bought a CX-90 PHEV from Tonkin. The manufacturer deals were amazing (over $11,000), and were ending that weekend, so we decided to buy from the dealer we were at. The car is nice! Somewhere between I-need-a-shower-after-that sliminess and outright lies. Specifically: 1) They gamed our access to information, coming back with an offer that took items off the deal, but without revealing that and without showing us the two side-by-side so it was on us to notice the change. They were careful to take away each piece of paper and not bring it back until I insisted they stop that and leave the deals on the table so I could compare. 2) They withheld information. At one point the salesperson literally would not let go of the piece of paper, obscuring part of it when we tried to look at it. 3) They tried to sell add-ons without being clear about the contents, in particularly misleading ways. They tried hard to sell us a "service package" without revealing that the first two services came with the sale; they succeeded in selling us a "treatment package" that they later revealed was already applied--but only when I asked about it. I have no idea if it's a factory-applied thing or something they actually add, very odd. When they checked in a week later, I let them know we had not had a great experience. The sales manager called me to but then interrupted me repeatedly to discount my feedback and explain why what they did was right. He was the same manager as was on the floor when we were buying. I do a lot of deals, professionally and personally, and these are not tactics want to experience. They are unnecessary and disrespectful. We left sad about the experience. I rarely post reviews but I figured I needed to share this one. More

I just got into my 4th lease of a CX-5 with Tonkin Mazda, but this experience stands out. It was a pleasure to work with Mallory from the minute I walked in door explaining my goal of trading in my current but this experience stands out. While I walked in planning to just be considering options, the process was very smooth and a nice del was presented to me that felt fair all around! Mallory and Kyle were very helpful as we worked the aspects of the numbers with different deal points and allowed me to very transparent about my goals and took them into consideration when presenting an offer. I can't say enough about what an awesome ride the CX-5 is and have been early adopter with a 2017.. The team at Tonkin especially Mallory and Kyle made getting into this newest one an easy transaction that I'm quite happy about! Thanks Guys! More
