A Pleasant Used Car Purchase Experience at Northbrook Toyota Buying a vehicle is one of the more unpleasant things we are subjected to in our lifetimes, especially a pre-owned car. Most of my experiences have been true to script -- all of Robert Cialdini's "Powers of Influence" are engulfed by all levels of Sales and F&I, from reciprocity to scarcity. You can use your favorite search engine to look that one up and have a good laugh. But, usually tears come to mind when buying a used car, not laughs. I can assure you that was not the case with my recent experience at Northbrook Toyota. I will say, a little homework can go along way. So, do your research, assess the market and then go in with realistic expectations and good attitude. You'll be surprised how nice people will be in return. Larry Breitman sounded very pleasant on the initial phone call. He immediately confirmed in email my test drive appointment for the vehicle I had my eye on from online searches, and accommodated (also through email) an earlier appointment time. The pleasantness continued in-person. Larry was attentive, professional and definitely not pushy. He was very patient during the test drive, as the vehicle purchase was for my elderly mother-in-law. Between working with Larry, his Sales Manager and the Business Manager on all of the paperwork, the entire process took 2 hours including a healthy test drive. If you've never had the pleasure of buying a car from a dealership, you can count on 4 hours +, longer if financing. Larry, Scott and Anthony were all great to work with. I would highly recommend Larry as a transaction expert, nice guy; and no complaints about the dealership so far. I actually like the no-pretense, simple showroom, with no North Shore snootiness (even though it is in Northbrook). More
Just another used car dealer This dealer lives up to the reputation of a true used car dealership. The salesman lied and promised he would send me a gas card for $100. Of course the gas card never arrived and it has been almost 2 months now. The finance manager got a really bad financing deal despite perfect credit. I almost walked out the door before he presented another option which was only somewhat better. Told me I could refinance which I did the next day but then had to pay all title fees all over again and finance charges for 3 weeks because that was how long it took the dealer to send the paperwork in to the bank and bank to process it. He would not work with me on my own financing directly. Terrible experience over all and I will never return there. They begged me for a review so here you go. More

We were not familiar with all the new safety and communication features and they took their time in explaining these to us. We feel that if we continue to have questions we will get excellent customer service there. And best of all are very happy with our new Toyota! More

Disaster I bought a used 2017 Toyota Camry from this Dealer. Two days after buying, I pull into a gas station and while trying to open the fuel door, the fuel I bought a used 2017 Toyota Camry from this Dealer. Two days after buying, I pull into a gas station and while trying to open the fuel door, the fuel lever wasn't working. I immediately drove to Northbrook Toyota. Good thing it was still open. I asked my sales guy to see what's the problem and he said it's just small issue. Apparently it was not! They had to replace the whole lever because it was broken. And when I told this to the sales guy, he indirectly tries to blame it on me that I broke it. How can someone break a lever from the inside that too few days from buying? This is a sales guy, who'll say anything rubbish to cover the dealership fault. And then on Thursday, the service guys said "Since I just bought it, it can be fixed for free". And they didn't have the spare part, so they had to order it. I was asked to come on Saturday. When I got there on Saturday, they said it's a $300 work, they'll give it for $100. I have never seen a dealership that works this bad. A bunch of liars and crooks. It was a disaster. In the end, the manager threw me out of the dealership for creating a ruckus and he said I apparently disrespected him and will call the cops on me for just trying to pull a paper that said Toyota Warranty on his desk, when I was just trying to talk to him because he was always on his cellphone. More
