Hi Cory, I apologize for the way you feel about our assessment of your vehicle during your most recent service. We have looked into the issue and have confirmed that the discrepancy you discovered regarding the air vents in the Mercedes-Benz C43 lies within the body style of the vehicles you compared. A C43 sedan has a different default defrost mode than a C43 coupe. This is why the coupe requires the “face vent” option to be turned on in order to activate all of the blowers within the dash. We were able to confirm this information by referring to page 124 from the owner’s manual for your vehicle. It is my understanding that a copy of this was included with your service paperwork. To Whom It May Concern, We believe that a few details may have been omitted that are crucial as to why the purchaser of the car received an estimate of approximately $8,000. First is that this 2006 CLS500 has not been in for service since 7/2/15 at 90,000 miles. During this visit, it was documented on the final invoice that the car was due for spark plug replacement and that it had an oil leak. At that time the additional work was declined. It appears that the vehicle sat for a majority of the past two years because the mileage has only increased 6,080 miles between 2015 and 2017. This can be verified with a CARFAX report. When a vehicle sits for an extended amount of time, the brake system, tires, and suspension components are greatly affected, especially in highline vehicles. When the prior suggestions that were declined at the 90,000 mile service, in conjunction with issues that arise when a vehicle sits for a long time as well as routine maintenance procedures are added together, one can see how the repair cost easily added up to a substantial amount. We normally advise that if you plan on selling a vehicle privately that you have it inspected first so that you are aware of the overall condition and needed repairs. We apologize for any inconvenience in this matter.
