My wife and I were actively shopping in the Portland area for a new car (Chevy Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, or Ford Focus) and were pretty much through for the day and heading home to Philomath. As we passed through McMinnville I saw the VW sign and decided on a whim to pull in and have a look. Michael greeted us after giving us enough time to stretch our legs and he then proceeded to do something very novel for a car salesman. He let us do all the talking. Michael listened to our needs, complaints, wants, whatever - added a few very simple questions about us - then presented cars that he felt may meet what we were looking for. I never felt that he was trying to lead us to what he wanted to sell - he was showing us what we wanted to buy. Michael and manager Jack Roberts were kind, peaceful, informative, attentive without being pushy in the least - and GOOD LISTENERS. It's a smaller dealership, but quite up-to-date and with a solid inventory. My wife and I were very comfortable. My wife was so pleased with the overall experience and happy to have the perfect car (2011 VW Jetta) that she cried. This dealership sold me a "New" Jetta. After 1 day and 40 miles there is a engine problem. Their two well seasoned mechanics were able to confirm the problem but don't know how to fix it! The manager told me it will be 7 to 10 days, so his mechanics would have time to contact VW for advise on how to repair the car. I wanted to return the car for a refund or replacement and the manager refused and accused me of "playing games" when I told him I would contact our attorney to protect our interest. I contacted our attorney and served the manager a letter demanding in writing he cancel the retail agreement and take the car back. We will see what happens. Beware of this dealership. Update: I was contacted by the Volkswagen Group USA in Virgina and I was told by Daryl on Thursday, August 2, 2012 the he has contacted the VW dealership in McMinnville and HE has stopped all repairs on our new Jetta and HE is working out the details with the dealership of getting us a new vehicle. Daryl also stated he would get the details to us the following day Friday, August 3, 2012. On Friday August 3, 2012 I did not get the so called details from Daryl nor did I get a new car. Over the weekend nothing happened. Monday, August 6, 2012 no calls or emails "NOTHING" again. Tueday, August 7, 2012 I recieved a call from Daryl at 4:55pm to contact him at his office the following day as HE was on his way out for the day. I tried to reach Daryl Tuesday evening and left him a message. On Wednesday, Augsut 8, 2012 at 8:15am again I attempted to contact Daryl and was told he was not in his office, but he was expected to be in within the hour....I left a message for Daryl asking him to contact me as soon as he gets in....Guess what, Daryl NEVER contacted me. I finally was able to reach the Excutives of the Volkswagen Group USA. Believe it or not I was able to reach the CEO of the company and his Executive. What a surprise... Here is a bigger surprise, I was told by the CEO excutive after she had spoken to Daryl "there has been a communication problem between me and Daryl and that he NEVER stated to me his comments on August 2, 2012. So now I know and you know where this is going..... End of story! Jim More
