We just purchased a 2021 Ranger XLT from Bowen Scarff... - Nick
We just purchased a 2021 Ranger XLT from Bowen Scarff Ford. In all fairness, we used to be regular customers back in the 90s when we lived in the area, but since moving 75 miles north in 2002, we haven't made a purchase there since 1998 (we still have that truck). Since we were in the market for a new truck, I decided to benchmark Ranger prices using Bowen Scarff, and not surprisingly, they are still pricing their vehicles very competitively with every other Ford dealer between Olympia and Bellingham (I checked). I decided to reach out through their excellent website and immediately got a response from salesman Chris Kelly. Over the next several days, we remained in contact to narrow down our options to a couple different trucks that they had in stock, and finally settled on the one we wanted - or so I thought. My wife decided she didn't like the color, and instead wanted a similar color - one that was discontinued on the Ranger after the 2020 model year. I called Chris back to see if they had any 2020 Rangers in that color, but he was off for a few days. However, sales manager Joel Koval called me right back, made sure he understood what we were looking for, and began searching as far away as Portland for "that" truck. Unfortunately, that was a very popular color, and Joel spent a couple days looking for one with no luck. Since Chris was still off, Joel handed us off to Daniel Montgomery, another salesman at the dealership. After verifying that no 2020s were available, we went back to our original choice. Daniel arranged to have the truck ready for purchase that afternoon, and we began the 75-mile drive down to Kent. Once we arrived at Bowen Scarff about 1:30PM, Daniel met us at the door. Even though he appeared to be a little younger than most auto salesmen, he was very knowledgeable about the vehicle we were buying and the processes to complete the transaction. In addition, he was very courteous and respectful - especially with regard to COVID protocols - as well as very attentive, and he was able to answer all of our questions right away. Once we test drove the rig and cleaned out our trade-in, we were handed over to Tom Buttram in Finance. Tom is one of the old guard, as he was a salesman we knew back in the 90s at Bowen Scarff, so it was kind of fun to go down memory lane with him. I think we spent more time reminiscing and BS'ing than we did on the finance paperwork, and at no time were we pressured or shamed into buying something we didn't want or need. He carefully explained all the products available for us to purchase, answered our questions and laughed at my lame jokes. Once that was done, Daniel handed us our keys asked if we had any more questions, then thanked us for shopping at Bowen Scarff - we were on our way home by 3PM. I think it is fair to say that everyone in this process - Chris, Joel, Daniel and Tom - went above and beyond to make sure we got the vehicle we wanted without wasting any of our time. It was worth the 75-mile drive to make this purchase, and the new Ranger is sweet rig.
