We had bought cars from Don Frederickson before. So when we decided on another Ford car, we came back to Don and Skyline Ford. He had everything ready for us as we live about 3 hours away so this was impo we decided on another Ford car, we came back to Don and Skyline Ford. We purchased our first car from Skyline Ford in 1984 and with the exception of two vehicles have purchased every car/truck from them since then. Working with Don for the second vehicle in a year, was a pleasure. No pressure, fair negotiator, and he understands the finer points of the vehicles he sells. He's an honorable man, takes the hassle out o pleasure. No pressure, fair negotiator, and he understands the finer points of the vehicles he sells. He's an honorable man, takes the hassle out of a vehicle purchase, and will take the time required to assure consumers that they are achieving the best price/value relationship possible. BUT.....the finance person we worked with was not competent in his current position there. We planned to write a check for the vehicle with no trade in, and he had already been pre-informed of that. (Also, we had gone through a similar new vehicle purchase at this dealership just 9 months before.) Since the actual vehicle sale was already agreed upon, with a negotiated CASH price, the finance person's sole objective was to sell an extended warranty at maximum price. There was no need for a credit check, but he ran one anyway. OK! Our credit score came back at 803, which we already knew. His presentation was rushed, and he was confused. The first warranty product for $2,300 was for a commercial buyer, not an individual consumer. I corrected him and he printed out another contract that was slightly lower. All the basic contracts had add-ons, and he paid little attention to detail, or to features and benefits. He kept coming back to the base price, but I knew he was going to push the add-on segments that were visible from my side of the desk, which turned a $1,900 plan into a $4,000 plan. I said that the price was high. He asked me, "so what did you expect to pay for an extended warranty?" I told him I had purchased a 7-year extended warranty for my 2017 Ford Explore FROM A FORD DEALER in Arizona 3 years ago for $1,300, and I had it with me. He then acted as though he was reviewing his computer for other plans, and miraculously came up with one that he could sell me "today only for $1,300." I asked if this $1,300 one covered the same things equally to the one for $1,900, and he said "yes it will." But I could only get the $1,300 price today, and the price would increase tomorrow, once I had left with my new Platinum Explorer. He added that the price would go up because "tomorrow the warranty "will be on a USED car, not a new one." I have purchased a few high end cars in my 71 years. This "bush league" move on his part placed him into a different type of salesman category as far as I was concerned, and so I ended this ridiculous line of discussion with him. He was so flustered as he stood up, that my wife had to remind him that we had not yet given him our check for the vehicle. My recommendation to this dealership, based on my long career selling large contracts of consumer products to very large retail chains: Re-train this person, with much better focus on product knowledge, relationship selling, fact based selling skills, and honorable interfacing technique with potential customers. More
