This is quite a story, but I do feel like it needs to be told. The first week of July I found a 2012 Hyundai Veracruz with 100,000 miles for sale at this dealership, Tasca Hyundai in Stamford, CT, listed f told. The first week of July I found a 2012 Hyundai Veracruz with 100,000 miles for sale at this dealership, Tasca Hyundai in Stamford, CT, listed for $6700. I made a general inquire asking if it was still available and received a phone call from who I was told was the sales manager, Alex. I was 95% sure I wanted the car so I told him I would make an offer of $6000 and explained that after reading the Carfax, the car needed a radiator flush transmission service, AWD serviced etc. and while I thought it was a good car and the car I really wanted it did need some work. Alex asked if I had a trade-in. I told him I had a 2019 Mazda CX five sport in red with 104,000 miles. The trade-in value on this car is 11,500 as told to me by CARFAX, KBB and my Capital One lender. That same car on a lot would fetch $18-$20,000. Regardless, I sent in 20 or more photos of my car and also included a Craigslist ad where I was trying to sell the car ( I did eventually for $13,500) Two days passed and I never hear back!! When I check to see if the car is still for sale, I’m shocked to see that it is for sale at $8700!! I immediately reached out to Luigi and asked him who was protecting my interest here, I was sure that I was the first person to inquire about the car and I was sure that I had made a genuine verbal offer on the car. My husband being a lawyer, I know that a verbal offer can be considered legal. I was told without a cash deposit they cannot hold the car. I responded that that wasn’t exactly my question. I had a verbal conversation with the sales manager of this car establishment and made a verbal offer on this car, two days later it is $2000 more dollars than it was listed for originally and no one has so much as called me back. After some hemming and hawing I was told that my VIN number on the trade-in was incorrect and they assumed I wasn’t interested. What sales manager of a car dealership does not give you a call back after a verbal offer has been made? I don’t know either. What kind of dealership raises the price of a car $2000 after offering it for sale and then receiving an offer for it. The ethics of this question is lost on me too. I was told by Alex that Luigi would get my paperwork ready with a buyout amount for the Veracruz. Meaning that the cost of the Veracruz would not be covered by the trade-in of the Mazda. As stated the trade-in value of the Mazda was $11,500. The Veracruz was originally listed at $6700 relisted at $8700 but I would have a buyout amount? I was so upset by this point I was shaking all over and discontinued all Communication with Tasca. I assumed that I was never gonna get the car and proceeded to write a scathing review, telling nothing but the truth mind you. After a week, I inquired again and was told the car sold, I inquired again with a different email and name and was told that yes the car is available! I did email the GM at this point, but then it disappeared off the lot, I assumed it sold. As I said earlier, it was the car I wanted so I kept the 12 Veracruz in my search engine and the car pops up for sale in Norfolk, Virginia. Auto Nation, Norfolk. An independent lot not the chain. Exact same mileage, exact same Carfax I assume after the review that they simply sold the car at auction. Their loss my gain I picked it up in Norfolk for $7200. Very little negotiation could’ve brought me to that number in Stamford and they would’ve gotten a very nice 19 Mazda. I got the car I wanted after all with the exact same mileage at a fair price from a very fair dealer and Stamford gets this review a lost sale and what was a great Mazda. If you’re looking for a good used car and an honest dealer try a small independent lot called Auto Nation in Norfolk. Do not ever step foot on Tasca Hyundai in Stamford, Connecticut. I cannot review any of their other lots. This is a big dealership, but the guys running the Stamford unethical. More
