Price of truck was fair. Reasonable dealer discount before rebates. The only conversation I did not appreciate was the textbook tactical language from the finance manager. We have purchased many dealer warranties from other dealerships before typically for half the price a day or two after purchasing a vehicle. Very common in the industry to do this as a smart saving measure. I did not appreciate being told that the manufacturer would not honor a full manufacturer warranty just because it was purchased from another dealer after it left a lot. As long as it is purchased within the baseline warranty period, it will always be considered a manufacturer warranty and not a service contract. We’ve done this many times with many manufacturers. I chose not to press back on this claim, however since he very appropriately and very quickly reduced the price of the extended warranty by several hundred dollars upon the first inquiry. This was reasonable. All negotiations are compromise, and I considered this a reasonable enough middle ground. All in all I would purchase again from the dealership, but I would also press harder for a deeper job in the warranty cost, and if offered the same fear language again, it would simply decline and buy the warranty from another dealer. More
