My son took his 2021 Subaru Crosstrek in on Monday June 3rd for a basic oil change. He declined every "recommended service and complementary check." He told the service department to "just change the oil 3rd for a basic oil change. He declined every "recommended service and complementary check." He told the service department to "just change the oil." He was told about an hour later that two of his lugs on his wheel were cross-threaded. The tech blamed Wal-mart and a recent tire rotation. The tech did not know that "good old dad" always check behind clueless Walmart techs and two weeks ago when the tire rotation and actually found all was good all the wheel lugs were loosened and retightened to 89 ft/lbs per Subaru spec by "good old dad." I am not quite sure why the wheels were off in the first place since they were only supposed to "CHANGE THE OIL." Miraculously the dealership chagred $13 for two new lugs and lug nuts. (Funny they didn't charge labor.) Their tech would NEVER have cross-threaded the lugs when doing an unrequested complementary check now would he? Two days later my son found his oil filter installed in about 1/4 inch of used motor oil at its base. Subaru filters are installed on top of the engine in a base that will hold fluid if not cleaned properly when the filter was changed. In short the service department at Southern States Subaru SUX! We will not darken the doors of this dealership expecially when Johnson Subaru is only a few miles down the road. Motorists beware and steer clear! More
These people like to sell you a car, but any service after the sale is nonexistent. We paid $15k down 8 days ago, and our paperwork was going to be mailed to us in "a couple of days". Still no paperwo after the sale is nonexistent. We paid $15k down 8 days ago, and our paperwork was going to be mailed to us in "a couple of days". Still no paperwork, and they have no idea where it is, just that "it's been mailed", but no dates when it was mailed. If they're this bad, why would I, or anyone else, ever take their car in for service or repair? Steer clear of these people. They're great until they get your money, then they might as well be invisible. More

I have called the general manager four times now and it appears from other reviews that he did not call people back 3 years ago either. The sales manager finally called instead, made misrepresentations and sent me on a goose chase without actually committing to get the car registered. They don't get that registration is not a negotiation, they are required by law to get it done within a certain timeframe. Its unfortunate that they are allowed to continue to do business this way. Clearly from other reviews the state and Subaru corporate know and have done nothing. More
Don't do business with this service dept. They kept my daughters car well over a month, to install a new transmission. The first trip she took on the car (Raleigh-Charlotte) within 2 months of having the car back, it leaves my daughter and wife on the side of I85 on a Sunday. Had the vehicle towed to the subaru dealer in Concord. after waiting for a tow truck, ubering to Charlotte airport, and renting a car to get home. southern states refuses to re-imburse us for the expenses or repairs. Brian McKnerny (general mgr) states the vehicle is too old and has too many miles. This didn't stop them from replacing the transmission. A bare minimum warranty is 12 months 12k miles. we paid the repair bill in Concord, and only asked for re-imbursement of the expenses accumulated due to the failure. mr McKnerny was extremely rude and defensive when he finally got around to returning my call 2 weeks later after multiple messages had been left with his service dept. the svc mgr Todd Driver admitted they had some responsibility in the matter, but I guess he was trumped by McKnerny. They seem to have forgotten WE CHOSE to do business there. Never again!!!!!! More
I will not say, "do not buy a subaru" but I will say, "buy it from a different dealership" if your gonna buy one. The process of purchasing a car here is great but any thing after the sale and it is a ni "buy it from a different dealership" if your gonna buy one. The process of purchasing a car here is great but any thing after the sale and it is a nightmare! If you have issues good luck contacting this place. After you place multiple voice mails because no one will pick up you will be forced to drive to the dealership to express your current issues. I've had nothing but issues with this place and was forced to contact subaru of America to force these people to do anything. If you plan on maintaining your car with the dealership you bought it from pick another place to go. I'm just trying to save someone from the headache I've been going thru. Yesterday I got my car back after it spent four weeks in the service department for a repair that should have taken two days (ignition lock cylinder replaced). I was told three separate times that my car wo the service department for a repair that should have taken two days (ignition lock cylinder replaced). I was told three separate times that my car would be ready on a certain day only to find out later they had not even started work on it. When I initially asked about a loaner vehicle I was told by Michael McInern, the service representative, that with the inventory shortage they had sold all their loaner vehicles. I found out that was a lie when, after the first week and a half, I complained to the service manager that I was not able to get a straight answer about the status of the repairs on my car. In an effort to appease me he offered to give me a loaner vehicle until mine was fixed. When I was finally able to pick up my car the ignition lock was fixed. There were also several new scratches and a new ding on the passenger side of the car. I had driven about two blocks after leaving the dealership when the panel under the steering column came loose and fell on my foot. There is a piece of foam insulation in the back of the car that it appears just did not get put back in place. Several personal items are also missing from the car. None of the items have a high monetary value, so I do not think they were intentionally taken. Judging by the condition of the car when it was returned to me I suspect the items were lost due to carelessness (i.e. They were taken out of the car when the repair was being done and never put back.). I have taken my car to the service department at Southern States Subaru several times in the past. Initially I had good experiences. It is disappointing to see how bad both the service and the quality of work are now. More
The dealership had the 2019 Subaru Legacy waiting for me when I arrived there. I contacted the dealer and told them that I was driving from Havelock, NC. They told me exactly where the car was located. The when I arrived there. I contacted the dealer and told them that I was driving from Havelock, NC. They told me exactly where the car was located. The salesman showed me the car and explain the features that it had. I committed to buying the vehicle. They took care of all the paperwork. I was able to add the vehicle to my insurance. I was given a temporary license plate. My permanent license plate came into the dealer and I was able to pick it up. Everything went well. I recommend this establishment. More

First time to use the service department. Turned in car for 2 recalls, oil change and tire rotation and left it overnight. Called the next day around noon and inquired about a pick-up time...answer was "p for 2 recalls, oil change and tire rotation and left it overnight. Called the next day around noon and inquired about a pick-up time...answer was "pick up at end of day"...so, I asked what time they closed and was told 6;00 p.m. I said I would be there by six; response from person (not identified) on phone was: "We will call you!"??? Go see Donnie Jackson! Though we in the end did not find the car we needed at Southern States Subaru, working with Donnie to exhaust all possibilities they had in their inventory was exceptional. Never did the car we needed at Southern States Subaru, working with Donnie to exhaust all possibilities they had in their inventory was exceptional. Never did we feel any pressure. Rather, Donnie wanted us in the car we wanted/needed even if it was not on his lot in Raleigh. When he/the dealership wrote up a quote on a possible purchase and trade in value, it was strong. The only problem is ultimately it was not the color/type of car we wanted. I would highly recommend you see Donnie if you are looking for a Subaru. If we need another down the road and he is still there we will definitely be back. More
