Seller's Comments

The early 1970s Cutlass is one of the most handsome shapes to come out of GM's intermediate lineup, and the 1972 model holds a specific place in that history. This was the last year of the classic A-body hardtop styling before Oldsmobile redesigned the entire Cutlass line for 1973 with the new Colonnade platform and fixed pillars. After 1972, the pillarless hardtop look was gone for good. This example, finished in orange with a white vinyl top and chrome bumpers, is a head-turning combination that wears the era extremely well. Under the hood is the 350ci V8 backed by the Turbo-Hydra-Matic 350 three speed automatic, one of the most dependable transmissions GM ever built. The engine has been rebuilt and fitted with an Edelbrock intake that gives it a little more to work with. Power brakes and power steering keep the driving experience effortless, and the car moves with the easy confidence that made these Cutlasses so popular in the first place. Inside, the new white leather interior is clean and sharp against the black carpet and wood interior trim. Crank windows keep it simple and correct. The combination of white leather, black carpet, and wood trim gives the cabin a finished, upscale feel that punches well above what you might expect from a car in this class. Rally wheels finish the exterior with a period-correct look that suits the orange paint perfectly. The Cutlass nameplate would go on to become one of the most popular in American automotive history, eventually outselling every other car in the country by the mid-1970s. But 1972 was a notable year in its own right. A Hurst/Olds based on the Cutlass paced the Indianapolis 500 that year, and Oldsmobile built around 630 replicas to celebrate. The Cutlass S you see here is from that same memorable model year, freshly repainted six years ago and showing beautifully. Please call or email us today for more information.
