Taking its place between the smaller Q3 and three-row Q7, the Q5 offers the expected Audi traits of a quality cabin design, standard all-wheel drive and plenty of technology features. Audi's best-seller is roomy, refined and surprisingly nimble. The cabin feels well built and is thoroughly insulated from the outside world. In particular, there's almost no detectable wind noise, even at highway speeds. The Q5's cabin is spacious whether you're sitting in the front or the back seat, and it's easy to enter and exit through the well-shaped door openings. We also like the commanding driving position, which provides excellent outward visibility. Technology is a strong area for the Q5. The central touchscreen has a high-resolution display and feels responsive. Build quality is a hallmark of Audi vehicles, and the Q5 is true to the brand. The interior panels exhibit a tight fit throughout the cabin, and there's an interesting mixture of authentic metals, leathers and woods inside. Some competitors do a better job of wowing you with crystals or flashy styling, but the Q5 brings a lot to the table. Well-tailored exterior, plenty of tech features, broad range of powertrains. Stepping up to the 45 model boosts horsepower to 261. The turbo four provides plenty of punch to scoot the Q5 45 around town or blast down a highway on-ramp, and it is smooth, quiet, and mellifluous. At our test track, the Q5 45 delivered a brisk 5.5-second run to 60 mph. The cabin is both quiet at speed and easy to get in and out of. Moving up through the three trim levelsPremium, Premium Plus, and Prestige, nets more luxury features, including Audi's slick Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster. The Q5's rear seatbacks easily fold in a 40/20/40 fashion, however, providing flexibility that the Lexus RX doesn't have.
