I recently purchased a used Nissan Rogue from AutoNation in Tustin and had a very disappointing experience immediately after the sale. I worked with Brandon, and I didn’t leave with the vehicle until aft in Tustin and had a very disappointing experience immediately after the sale. I worked with Brandon, and I didn’t leave with the vehicle until after 8:00 PM the night of purchase. On the drive home, I realized the brake lights were not working, which made the vehicle unsafe and illegal to drive. I brought the car back the following day to have the brake lights repaired, and it wasn’t ready until the end of the day, when I picked it up around 8:00 PM again. That essentially used up two days of the courtesy return period right away due to an issue that should have been caught before the car was sold. Once I was able to get an independent inspection, the mechanic documented additional problems including a worn tie-rod end and a rear shock absorber leaking oil. I reported the findings promptly and provided documentation and photos. The dealership’s response was that the issues were “not safety-related” and that the car could be driven “for a long period without issue.” Instead of taking responsibility for repairs that should have been identified during the pre-sale inspection process, I was offered a reduced repair quote from $2,500 to $1,600, leaving me to cover a significant amount out of pocket. I chose to buy from a dealership rather than a private seller because I expected a higher standard of inspection and accountability. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience here. I strongly recommend buyers get an independent inspection immediately and ensure any issues are addressed in writing right away. More
