I purchased a used Jeep from AutoNation Subaru, and while the staff were friendly enough, my overall experience was frustrating. I’d strongly advise anyone shopping for a used car here to have an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle before purchase. The dealership’s inspection did not catch (or possibly overlooked) several serious issues with mine. When I test drove the Jeep, I noticed a ticking sound and a smell but assumed it was just part of owning a Jeep, since I’m not a mechanic. In reality, the ticking was the well-known Pentastar 3.6 issue that most mechanics recognize immediately. Within 24 hours I also discovered an oil leak. The service department attempted to repair the leak twice but failed both times. Ultimately, I had to take the Jeep to AutoNation Chrysler Jeep, where they finally resolved the oil leak and addressed the engine tick. During the seven weeks my vehicle spent in various shops, I was never offered a loaner car. My wife and I had to take multiple days off work, drive more than 24 hours round-trips back and forth to the dealership, and pay nearly $1,000 out of pocket despite having an extended warranty. In the end, I was fortunate to catch the leak quickly and to have warranty coverage, but the Jeep required about $4,000 worth of repairs almost immediately after leaving the lot. I can’t say with certainty whether the issues were deliberately overlooked, but it feels suspicious that so many expensive problems surfaced right after purchase. My advice: don’t rely on the dealership’s inspection alone—always get a trusted mechanic to look things over before buying.! More
